For many people, dogs are their life. They treat their dogs like family. And in America, many pet stores are dedicated to dogs because they are so appreciated. Every dog there is taken care of even if they are service dogs, or if they roam the streets and get caught, they are taken in. Because “a dog is man’s best friend.” In Australia, the situation is far worse. Dogs are people’s best friends and should be taken care of.
In life people typically root for the underdog, but in reality, the stronger figure typically wins. In the book Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, the reader will notice that the stronger figure will have power over the underdog characters. The book takes place during the Great Depression when women didn’t have many rights and men had seen women as objects rather than human beings. In the book, Steinbeck uses the role of women and animals to symbolize the…...

My dogs name is Rocky and his breed is a husky. Rocky is an excellent example of a working dog breed with high intelligence and a wide range of versatility. Everyone should know that Siberian huskies come from Siberia, however people didn’t…...

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) has had a significant impact resulting in service animals playing a valuable and critical role in assisting people with a variety…...
Many were abused. Most were forgotten. All were innocent. They are the refugees of animal shelters; abandoned and homeless animals that lacked protection from the uncharitable world. The refugees of the animal shelters receive sufficient care, but at times lack one of the most endearing necessities. That necessity is love. Numerous adopted dogs will playfully lick an incognizant face, bark at the door, wag their tails in excitement and be best friends with man; however, the dogs who are not…...

Every dog has a different personality and temperament. Many of them are more active than others and special in their own way. I made a visit to the Whittier Dog Park and observing the dogs was very interesting. To see their different behaviors with one another was pretty entertaining. You can tell which dogs are trained and which aren’t. Even some dogs acted like children by staying close to their owners. But this outdoor stimulation is needed so that the…...

Some dogs are much more susceptible to eye injuries than others are. Because dogs have poor sight to begin with, it is common for them to have twigs and sharp objects coming in contact with the delicate parts of their eyes. It isn't possible for an owner to protect a dog completely from eye injuries, but a regular inspection of the eyes can prevent a small problem from becoming a bigger one. Natural Eye Protection for Dogs As far as…...
Ever since the days of the early cavemen, who domesticated wolves into dogs about 14-15 thousand years ago, mankind has had pets. In fact, we have domesticated many animals to be pets, as well as beasts of burden and food and clothing, but just like everyone prefers different things to eat or fashions to wear, it seems that no one agrees on any one kind of pet. Like deciding who you will marry, finding the right pet for you is…...

Cats and Dogs have been America’s top household pets for centuries. There has always been a debate on which pet is easier and better to have. The differences between the two make it obvious that cats are much easier to have, like the level of attention, the cost, and the amount of time. The level of attention cats and dogs need is completely different. Cats don’t need a lot of attention and for a busy person that’s great. Cats love…...

In some perspectives the belief in a God is being superstitious. By definition being superstitious is creating a false certainty instead of being left with none which is what most scientists would explain for the existence of religion, just an explanation for the way things are as well as a sense of security for people. The Bichon Frise is a small, white, lovable dog. They make great pets and companions in almost any home. The bichon is hypo-allergenic, meaning that it does not shed and its dander should not affect most allergenic people. It is suspected that the Bichon Frise has been a part of the Earth’s history for somewhere around two thousand years. Recordings of Pliny the Elder…...

The differences of the two novels include literary features such as narrative point of view…...
My dogs are my life. I treat my dogs like family. And in America so many pet stores are dedicated to dogs because they are so appreciated. Every dog here is taken care of even if it’s in the pound, are service dogs, or if they roam the streets and get caught, they are taken in. Because “a dog is man’s best friend.” In Australia, dogs are treated like cattle. And that’s what I’m going to speak about. First, the animal welfare issues in Australia, then, how wild dogs affect their society, and lastly, the money spent on dogs are topics that will be brought up.
Dogs and Wild Dogs in Australia
To begin, I want to talk about the animal welfare issues in Australia. This is a great concern in the Australian community. Dogs and wild dogs are a problem. The Australian government’s role is to limit and issue export permits for domestic dogs. This is called the Export Control Act 1982. These permits require an accredited veterinarian to provide a health certificate that certifies the dog is in good health and fit for travel. Once exported dogs reach their destination, they come under the jurisdiction of the importing country. They have been working on importing countries on animal welfare matters. So many dogs live there in packs and roam the streets like gangs and they have to be kept under control.
Next, the topic of wild dogs in Australia is an important effect for Australia’s agriculture. Predation on livestock is a huge issue and happens often. This is a huge threat to any process of products being made such as crops. It is taking a heavy economic and emotional toll on livestock producers in affected pastoral and agricultural areas. Over half the population of dogs are wild dingoes. The Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 helps as a defense against these pests or diseases potentially occurring from them.
Money Spent on Dogs in Australia and the US
Finally, I would like to expose Australia’s money spent on dogs. Financially, dogs are a menace. I love dogs and I find them great companions, but they are considered pests in Australia. Because farmers’ products make top dollar and are world class in the beef/wool industry, dogs are a conflict because of hunting and causing the income of money to decrease. The impact of wild dogs annually costs $48 million. Now America spends around that much money for their “pet” dogs, but Australia sees them as dog “pests.”
How Dogs Affect Society
I would like to conclude by tying in the main points of animal welfare issues in Australia, how wild dogs affect their society, and the dog expenses there. All of these impact the process of living here in one way or another. So how important is your dog is to you? I also have a favorite quote I would like to share; “God said I need somebody strong enough to pull sleds and find bombs, yet gentle enough to love babies and lead the blind. Somebody who will spend all day on the couch with a resting head and supportive eyes to lift the spirits of a broken heart, so God made a dog.” For years dogs have been on this earth and used for various different reasons. They have a big effect on agriculture too. All around the world dogs are contrasting.
