My Best Friend and Companion Pronto

A companion animal is a pet or a domesticated animal. My companion, also my best friend, is my dog Pronto. He loves cuddling, car rides, and walks on couPronto is a 2 year old blue heeler. Blue Heelers are also called the Australian cattle dog. I got Pronto for my birthday, I asked my dad for a puppy every single day, which was exactly 82 times, until I got one. I got to leave school at noon and we drove to a dog breeder in Wisconsin and I got to choose which one I wanted, and let me just say I was the happiest eighth grader there has ever been.

Pronto is my best friend and life wouldn’t be the same without him. He is the smartest, fastest, and most loyal dog i’ve ever had.

The origin of the dog population is that they originated from wolves and over time people tamed them. They used them to hunt and find prey.

They were discovered 19,000-32,000 years ago. The origin of the blue heeler is in the 1800s when most people in Australia had a livestock farm, they needed a herding dog that could handle the heat and awful terrain. They wanted a dog that would bite at heels when cattle didn't want to move, and they wanted a dog that worked silently. Robert Kalensky bred Dingoes and Sheepdogs. This made for a supreme herding dog that could herd any amount of cattle. Their life span is approximately 12-15 years.

In today’s society, most people that have a blue heeler usually have them for herding cattle.

In other countries they are used to herd buffalo, which and even bigger and stronger than cattle. They can withstand kicks to the head, body, legs, or anything. They are very strong and are one of the best herding dogs. Without herding dogs in general, herding cattle and getting them where they're supposed to go would be significantly harder. They herd cattle around by biting at their ankles. They are smart enough to know where the cattle can and cannot go.

Blue heelers are insanely smart, but are even more stubborn. They could learn how to sit in an hour, but they’re so stubborn that it takes days. It took Pronto a week to learn sit and lay down. But once they learn something, they will not forget it. Sometimes you can just look at them a certain way and they’ll sit or lay down. They are very high energy and need lots and lots of attention. They are very difficult to have as a puppy because they can’t sit still. They are even worse than regularly hyper puppies.

Blue heelers are very agile and they do not tire easily. Pronto can jump on top of a truck or car very easily. Blue heelers can jump very high and can run for extremely long amounts of time and they do not get tired. Pronto never stops running to take a break or can leave the cows alone. When my dad is putting hay in for the cows, he moves all of the cows back away from the gate and the hay ring.

After someone has a blue heeler for a year or two, the one who spends the most time with them will create this bond that the dog will be very loyal to them. Pronto is very loyal to me and if my sister and I are fighting, it takes a lot to hold him back from my sister. Dogs like that will always come back even if they’ve been abused by their owner. They are so loyal to them that they come back anyways.

In conclusion, Blue Heelers are very intelligent, strong, and loyal dogs. They are one of the best herding dogs a cattle farmer could ever have. Blue Heelers have revolutionized the cattle industry for the better.
