Have you ever had a mentor or role model? Everyone has had that one person they look up or want to be just alike. Usually, mentors and role models are the ones that are read in the history books or sometimes they can be a relative, My role model is Martin Luther King Jr, He was a civil right activist, and is one of the reasons why African Americans have rights. He has shown leadership, courage, and self-discipline throughout his journey.
Martin has shown his leadership throughout his quest to fight for equal rights. Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or organization. Martin led the march across the Edmund Pettis Bridge from Selma to Montgomery, He also was a pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church There, he hosted many meetings during the civil rights movement. He was also part of the protest in Montgomery against buses which was called the Bus Boycott. He knew how to gather a crowd and keep their attention until he got his point across.
Like when he delivered the “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington. Having the courage to do something can be hard especially knowing the results of your situation, but Martin was prepared for everything.
For example; when the white policemen tried to stop Martin and a lot of black people from marching across the bridge, they continued. Even though the outcome of them doing that was bad, Martin and those people who marched with him, had the courage to march even though they knew what was about to happen.
Martin even had the courage to take full responsibility for his actions and every other African American. Martin Luther King stood up for what he believed in, regardless of the outcome. One of the main things you noticed about Martin was his self-discipline, He was able to do things at the right time and when they should be done. Whenever something came up, he was ready for it, Like for example; his response to Clergymen with “Letter from Birmingham Jail”, He felt as if he needed to write that to express how he felt, and it made a big impact on society. Martin is a big role model notjust for me, but everyone else who looks up to him. He has took his place one the most important people of our day, and he will always be remembered for leadership, courage, and selfvdiscipline.
