Essays on Computers

I firmly believe that having strong computer skills is key to being successful in the digital world. From writing news articles to creating digital artifacts, computer sciences are used daily by people worldwide. Businesses near and far are run and operated on computers, which allows some to carry out tasks others may not. “Universities acknowledge the importance of computer skills.” (Daniel Basel, 2017) They are an important part of being an A+ student. We live in a world run by computers. We use them at work, at school, at home, and even on the go. Without the proper knowledge, most are bound to fall behind. This brings me to my next thought, know your stuff. You can take classes.

How to Gain Computer Skills

You can go online, watch videos, and learn what your computer can do for you and how you can be successful in having the proper skills. It is possible to teach yourself the skills needed to work in an office doing data entry, just as much as doing web design. There are free courses you can take to acquire these skills.

Once you have done your research, you can then apply what you have learned to any posts you make in a discussion board such as this. Not only can you help educate a fellow student, but you may also get feedback that will help you see things in a way you hadn’t thought of. You may also learn something new from someone who may have more experience. Do not be afraid to ask a question. As Paul Sloan, author of The Leader’s Guide to Lateral Thinking Skills and The Innovative Leader, says, “It is the simplest and most effective way of learning.

Brilliant thinkers never stop asking questions because they know that this is the best way to gain deeper insights.” Those who stop asking questions think they know everything. The truth is, you will never stop learning. Which is why I will never stop asking questions, even after I earn my degree. New programs are always being released, as well as updates and the new features that come along with them. You will never learn to use them if you do not ask. Whatever questions you may have, someone else will have the answer or can find the answer for you. So never stop asking and learning. You can only grow from asking.

What I Plan to Do to Acquire New Skills

Every week, I plan to log into Canvas and read over the prompt for the weekly discussion. I will then save the prompt and set aside a couple of hours early in the week to write and research the current topic. I will always take what I read from others as helpful information, whether its something new or just a suggestion on how to do the same thing differently. I will also take the knowledge I have and apply it to comments I leave on another students post, hopefully also giving someone else a new way of looking or thinking. I hope to succeed in this digital world we live in, and I hope to help someone else succeed as well.
