Autobiography

My name is Kenisha Smith, I was born on March 20, 1987 at home in my grandmother's hands. I have was raised by only one parent, my mother. I have two brothers both belonging to my mother.

My early childhood was a typical middle class environment, I spent the first three years of my life living with my grandmother in the country while my mother travelled back and forth to work in Kingston. We moved to Portmore in the year 1990, at that time it was my mother, brother and I.

I had a normal childhood, the love hate relationship I had with my brother, I had lots of friends in my neighborhood and at school. I started my educational journey at the age of three, I attended Bridgeport Basic and Primary. I did common entrance in grade five which I was successful and was accepted to the Wolmer's High school for Girls. I graduated from my high school with excellent attendance awards three years in a row and also with my CSEC qualifications.

By the time I was in fourth form my mother had already migrated, splitting up my brothers and I. I was the only child of hers without a father so I had to stay with relatives while the others went with their father. My mom left to go seek a better a life for us but her leaving brought about a lot of instabilities in my life. I was nomadic but not by choice, I moved around a lot and made poor decisions but I have learnt that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

There are many encounters that one may go through in a lifetime but only some of these experiences can have an impact or shape one's life. It is safe to say those whether good or bad experiences helped mold me into the strong woman I am today. I am now 32 years of age, I am a mother to one, a spouse, a friend, an employee and also a student. These are just some of the roles bestowed on me by God, I have always believed in independence, living the good life and serving the purpose that God created us for.

Living in this society as a parent and as an individual who is in love with nice things, I am always looking for ways to make more money seeing that the cost of living is so high. I had to make a decision that I knew would impact my life now but would benefit me greatly in the long run. So I made the decision to go back to school while working but it was putting a strain on my pocket. I am always commended on the scent of my perfumes and how I smell amazing from individuals at work, so the idea was put to me by co-workers. I slept, eat, research and asked for advice about this new venture that I wanted to take on. So of course I took the risk, I ordered my first batch of perfumes on November 20, 2018 and it has been going strong ever since. What I normally do is to take orders from individuals and also purchase an amount to sell to new customers. My biggest market is by my workplace because there are about 200 persons employed there as well as other places of business. The payment method I apply to my business is to credit the product and give my customers a month to pay. So I would order the products online from the retailer, they normally take a week to be to be shipped and delivered. I then package the product and deliver to my customers.Answers to the questions

The reason I started my business because I wanted another a second income and I saw a perfect opportunity to make some money, as well as I was about to start school. This opportunity came via my co-workers and their demands for perfumes and I knew that I had the potential to be successful.

The characteristics that have helped me in my endeavors, I would say determination, hard work and self-motivation. I know how to be flexible in the decisions that I have to make in regards to the products that I offer. I am also an out-spoken individual so I love to network and connect with other individuals so that I may learn and to continue to develop as a person.

Being the person that I am, I try to make whatever I am doing beneficial to all involve.

I have created opportunities for my customers and myself, I make it easy and affordable for my customers to purchase and own several perfumes with the ease of credit. This new venture has helped me developed a whole new level of skills that have mold me into the well-rounded individual I am today as well as created opportunities in other areas of my life.

The short term goal I have for this business probably in two years is I would like to be more established on a wider scale for instance to advance into an online business. This would help me to supply more products to meet the demand of new and existing customers.

To improve my business I definitely need more capital to supply the demand for the product.

My target market is working class men and women age ranging from 20- 50 years that wants and loves to smell fabulous.

The most important thing I wish for my business is for it to be successful.

Yes, I would like to believe that there are some aspects of me that is creative. I try to be creative in the way I think, I open mind to all possibilities and risk, I size up the problem and try to create the best ideas to manifest solutions.

Yes, I have worked in the Gaming industry for eight years. I am currently employed with Supreme Ventures.

No, I did not receive any entrepreneurial training but I am good at giving good customer service and I have the charm to make individuals feel important.

Yes, it's making a profit. It has been beneficial to me as an additional income and savings.

When problems arises or I need to find solutions I remain calm and ask for advice from reputable individuals and try to find the resources to solve the problem.
