We are living in a technologically exciting moment. The aerospace sector is dynamic and evolving. How we approach aerospace technologies will under go a change with several converging trends. What excites me most is the rate of innovation that will make aerospace exploration sustainable for business, government and science. My previous academic background in Mechanical Engineering with ‘Aerodynamics’ and ‘Introduction to Flight’ as elective courses cultivated my deep interest in aerospace and has motivated me to apply for M.Eng. Aerospace Engineering at the McGill University.
I wish to build an in-depth and concentrated knowledge in this area to meet the demand for skilled professionals that will intensify with the rapid pace of innovation and optimization. I intend to, prepare myself for working in and with the global companies as an optimizer to provide solutions to non-trivial problems; develop analytical and design skills and solve complex technological concepts.
I completed my B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) followed by a Masters in Mechanical Engineering (Heat Power Engineering), both with first class distinction.
During the course of my study, learning different theories of lift, circulation over different shapes and how an aero-foil profile is made and stated for its performance, exposed me to the important aspect of ‘Optimization’ and ‘Computation using Numerical Methods’. Amongst my master courses, I most enjoyed studying about the optimization by mathematical modelling using regression analysis and artificial neural network; Design of experiments and empirical studies; Hypothesis testing and inferential statistics.
My master’s thesis was ‘Optimization of the Heat Transfer Furnace’, a study carried out in a flux manufacturing MNC aimed at finding out the optimal parameters on which the furnace can run skimpy with maximum output.
I worked on solving the problem through empirical methods to state optimal parameters. Using numerical methods and a computation platform (MATLAB) I found the patterns, stated relationship between parameters and backed up my empirical findings. Further, I developed the non-linear regression and neural network models to prove my hypothesis. The sponsoring company, benefited with an increase in production output by 20% at the optimal condition of the diesel fired furnace based on the findings of the thesis. Two of my research papers also got published in the International Journal of Current Engineering and Technology: (a) A Review on Thermal Performance of Different Working Fluids in A Dual Diameter Circular Heat Pipe, March 2016 and (b) Thermal Performance Evaluation and Modeling of Parameters for Optimum Fuel Consumption of the Diesel Fired Furnace, June 2016.
While pursing my post graduation, I realized the importance of Information Technology and its extensive usage in engineering especial in aero and space vehicles, which fundamentally centers on gathering, processing, and transmitting information. Driven by a quest for knowledge, a pragmatic approach and logical thinking, I further pursued my MBA (Information technology) with a focus on Artificial Intelligence and Data Warehousing and gained a better grip on the computational platforms. Alongside, I enhanced my programming skills in Java S.E, PHP, JavaScript, XML, MySQL, and Python. The internship with a Pune based IT company gave me the opportunity to work on business process re-engineering and optimization through value stream mapping using eVSM software product along with the exposure to engage and communicate with the customers. The knowledge that I assimilated in computing, information, and communication would be a tremendous help while I pursue my specialized masters in Aeronautics and Space Engineering.
I believe my previous scholastic foundation is my strength, which will prove me to be a unique and advantageous candidate in the pool of other Aeronautics and Space Engineering students. My outlook towards Aerospace Engineering is a wider range of opportunities to innovate, optimize and hence to work on diverse problems through specialization. At McGill University, I am eager to learn in detail subjects such as Experimental fluid mechanics and aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, and aeroacoustics; turbulence; computational fluid dynamics, multidisciplinary optimization, computer flow visualization; and hypersonic propulsion. I am excited to learn about new technology & innovation, power-efficient designs & models of spacecraft and new fuel technology, which can be, used in future projects.
I do understand that, both research and industry projects within this field are often international. Therefore I want to pursue a program that emphasizes not only academic fundamentals and engineering practices but also teamwork and professional development. I am confident that the curriculum offered by McGill University that includes industrial internships and case study courses will equip me with a broad, challenging and internationally acknowledged education with the essential skills and the requisite theoretical and practical framework to succeed in a highly competitive global environment.

The exposure I will get by meeting the avant-garde of the aerospace fraternity, the scientific insights and the detailed perspectives of various roles within the aerospace industry will play a catalytic role in my future career. I believe that studying at McGill University with its multidisciplinary approach to produce problem-solving techniques will further hone my technical abilities besides giving me a global perspective, to be a productive contributor to my chosen profession.
