When I had to choose a career in high school, I was lost. Therefore, my dad suggested engineering. My dad is a power engineer and a good one, so his advice had merit. After coming to the University to pursue engineering, I tried to seek the common goal, as a means of my long-term motivation to continue my studies and get good grades, that engineering students should be working on throughout their academic journey. That is when I discovered that there is a lot more to engineering than just the technical aspects and had extracurricular activities in high school.
Engineering provides me with the ability to think outside the box. The highly logical and solution-driven engineering process applies to all aspects of life. My academic journey in engineering is building my capacity for designing innovative solutions that would address current power generation and transmission issues faced by society. I would also be able to use my skills to design and improve innovative digital and analog electronics to enhance the living standard of common people.
Engineering also integrates various fields and skills, such as networking, soft skills, communication, leadership, and teamwork.
The most significant aspect of engineering for me is the opportunity to create impact and this has made my experience in engineering so much better. By always looking for opportunities to give back to the community, I have been exposed to a diverse set of skills. My community and leadership experiences have enabled me to be more open when working with other people, disciplines, and departments.
I have learned to learn from the mistakes of other people, act mindfully, and use my knowledge to create an impact. However, the most important lesson I learned through my extracurricular activities, is to recognize when I am over-committing or not challenging myself enough and then take the necessary steps to balance all the different facets of my life.
I had extracurricular activities in high school. Along with academics and community involvement, I have enjoyed being involved in community sports. I occasionally play badminton at the Greystone Heights Community. I am often involved in friendly practice sessions and matches. Being involved in sports activities help boost my self-confidence along with respect for teammates and the opposition. Moreover, my work experience as a Student Innovation and Business Analyst provides me with the opportunity to apply my theoretical knowledge to carefully evaluate various electrical engineering technologies and research. It also helps me gain essential research skills that would become necessary when pursuing my Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.
A scholarship like this would boost my confidence and inspiration to realize my dream of becoming a successful electrical engineer. I am a diligent student, reliable, ambitious, open-minded, and highly motivated individual. My education, work experiences, and extracurricular activities are shaping me to become a global citizen who identifies herself as a member of a world community and always strives for excellence in all facets of life. I have the passion and determination to become a trusted member of the electrical engineering community. Without scholarship donors willing to support education, students such as myself would be unable to pursue university degrees with such peaceful minds.
