Aesthetic value and communication

Aesthetic value refers to the price of a property, mostly a piece of art. Any piece of art has a variety of value financial, sentimental, or historical value. Valuable pieces of art are believed to have a unique non-utilitarian and non-instrumental value. Most people confuse this value with beauty regardless of the fact, a good number of artworks do not possess elegance. Pieces of art possess an aesthetic value that is related to a unique experience (mostly a feel of the natural environment).

Art is said to have a positive aesthetic value when it can give desire in quality of its skill in gracefulness, unity, beauty, and so on. The vice versa is true. Biodiversity beautifies our planet, unlike other planets which are barren and with negative aesthetic value. Organic diversity enhances the value of life. Biological diversity enhances landscape beauty as it offers various striking features of our existence. People utilize these natural features in multiple ways and multiple areas around the world.

People move to different places to have the bliss of various sceneries and wildlife, which can be referred to as eco-tourism. Eco-tourism is used as a significant source of income in multiple nations. Additionally, biodiversity has attracted traditions and culture among various communities. This has contributed to the aesthetic values for different regions as discussed below.

Aesthetic Values

i. Hiking/Exploring

Hiking is the act of exploring various natural sceneries. Hiking is an aesthetic value that can be used for social, cultural, or health benefits (Goldman, 2018). Hiking can be used for social practices where a group of friends or relatives go hiking together and interact socially.

However, some people go hiking to enjoy nature and have peace of mind. Hiking is also regarded as a significant cardio workout practice that can be used to reduce risks to blood pressure and heart diseases. Some people hike to places with unique features to pay cultural respect. For instance, visiting a peak of a mountain to pray and worship gods.

ii) Camping

Camping is the act of getting away from the comfort of home and traveling somewhere then set up camps which are then considered a residence during the adventure. After deciding on the best place to go for an experience, individuals set up tents close to the site of adventure so that they can use them as their new homes in the meantime. Camping has cultural, social, and health benefits to human beings (Petrovicia, 2016). Some individuals attach cultural meanings to objects in nature, compelling people to travel from long distances to see the objects. Once people move to visit something they identify with their culture, they tend to camp close to the place.

Additionally, camping enables individuals to interact with each other. Human beings are social beings, and socializing is like a therapy to people. Camping brings together people from all walks of life, culture, age, and race. As people socialize, they benefit from exchanging ideas. Finally, camping is associated with outdoor activities. Outdoor activities offer a platform for exercising; thus, a person engaging in camping is healthy due to frequent physical activities that are involved.

iii) The beauty of the Landscape

The beauty of the landscape is one of the aesthetic values derived from biodiversity. The beauty of the landscape has cultural benefits (Ingarden, 1964). Some communities attach cultural importance to some of the scenes; for instance, the top of mountains is used to reach to supernatural beings by some individuals. Additionally, the beautiful landscape has social benefits to people since when people travel all over the world for adventure to see landscape; they tend to interact with each. Interaction with people from different places increases one's network, and this has more significant benefits of expanding one's thinking due to the sharing of ideas. Finally, a beautiful landscape has health benefits in that a beautiful environment pushes someone to engage in outdoor activities. When going for outdoor activities, a person benefits health-wise by exercising, which is vital for good health? Engaging in outdoor activities relieves tensions and contributes to good moods.

iv) Caving

Caving engages human activities inside and around a cave. Caves are a few examples of aesthetic values that are among the most attractive ones. Caves are natural, thus attract people who are disturbed with how the caves came to be. Historically, caves were used for hideouts during wars, used as homes, and for performing cultural rites. Caving has several benefits to human beings. Caving has both cultural, social, and health benefits. The social benefit of caving is the provision of grounds for performing traditional rites for a couple of communities. Additionally, the social benefit of caving is enabling human beings to interact with each other. Finally; the health benefit of caving is offering a chance for people to engage in outdoor activities, thus exercising in the process.

v) Bird Watching

Bird watching is the activity where a large group of people engage in the exercise of observing birds in their natural habitat. Bird watching is not only done using bare eyes but also by the usage of cameras to provide a more beautiful view. Also, cameras help in recording natural events for future review. Bird watching has both cultural, social, and health benefits to human beings. The cultural benefit of bird watching is that some birds are associated with cultural importance to specific communities. Some birds are related to good luck while others are associated with causing signs of rain or a dry season (Schirpke et al, 2016). The social benefit of bird watching is that it brings people from all walks of life together, thus offering grounds for sharing of ideas. Finally, the health benefit of bird watching is that it serves as a therapy, thus relieves stress and tension in people. A stress-free life means a healthy one.

Question 4

Aesthetic values will be lost because human beings have interfered with the ecosystem. Precisely, when people invade natural forests and sites for an adventure, they tend to make the places unattractive anymore (Silvia, 2012). Once trees are fallen from their natural states, a lot of activities within the ecosystem is interfered with. Once the ecosystem is unbalanced, it becomes unattractive to people and what used to stir happiness becomes boring. For example, when people interfere with trees, they destroy an aesthetic value; for instance, watching birds cannot happen without trees.

A lot of people enjoy camping close to waterfalls. As days go by, people have slowly interfered with the flow of rivers so that they can engage in activities that use large quantities of water. If a river flow is hijacked from the top by selfish people, it may cause little or no water to flow to the waterfall, thus destroy a camping site. The increasing loss of biodiversity has reduced the amount of water in rivers, thus reducing the number of waterfalls that people can visit, enjoy and camp around.

Aesthetic values are lost due to the rising loss of biodiversity. When the ecosystem balance is interfered with, the aesthetic benefits are lost. Human beings have interfered a lot with nature by increasing social activities around caves which scares away people who enjoy going for adventure in caves.

Question 5

My plan on how to convince people on the importance to conserve biodiversity will entail a rigorous door to door campaign. The campaign will involve erecting billboards with conservation messages and organizing mass public education programs to steer conservation.

Door to door activities, involving knocking people's doors and creating awareness on the need to conserve biodiversity, will help create awareness on conservation of the natural environment. Occupants of different houses will be reached using this strategy; thus, the message for preservation of biodiversity will reach more individuals.

Additionally, erecting billboards with a message of conserving biodiversity is the other plan to convince people to take care of biodiversity. Eye-catching advertisements will attract the attention of road users, thus making the message of conservation to reach as many people as possible.

Finally, regular mass public education programs will enable me to teach individuals on the importance of conserving biodiversity. I will prepare flyers carrying the message of biodiversity conservation which I will distribute among the attendants of my educational programs. Educating the masses will bring sense to many of them. Results of the latter strategy are realized within a short time. Once one uses friendly ways of educating people, the concepts stick in their minds.
