Throughout the course, I have undergone significant transformations in my reading, writing, and learning abilities. The progress made during this semester is evident not only in my academic assignments but also in my overall confidence in these skills. This reflective essay explores the journey of growth and development in these areas, acknowledging strengths, addressing weaknesses, and contemplating the impact on my future career.
Reading, particularly the identification of hidden themes and ideas, was a longstanding challenge for me.
This course, with its emphasis on analyzing articles like the one by Fallow, compelled me to delve into texts deeply. Initially challenging, this process became a valuable learning experience. The extensive reading and research required equipped me with the necessary mechanisms to unravel the complexities within written materials. Consequently, I can now confidently discern hidden themes and issues embedded in the writings of various authors. This newfound skill not only enhances my understanding but also serves as a foundation for improvement in other areas, such as writing.
Parallel to my progress in reading, my writing skills have undergone significant enhancement.
Writing, initially a daunting task as English is not my first language, has evolved into a mode of expressing thoughts and ideas. The interconnected nature of reading and writing became apparent, with improvements in one skill complementing the other. While grappling with grammatical errors in my initial writings, especially related to tense usage, revisions and constructive criticism played a pivotal role in my learning process.
The transformation is evident in the reduction of grammatical mistakes, primarily centered around tense-related issues. This newfound proficiency in writing has empowered me to view it as a potent tool for communication and expression.
One of the most significant changes involves a shift in my thought process. I have come to realize the importance of criticism and the necessity of acknowledging weaknesses without allowing them to impede progress. Embracing a more proactive attitude towards improvement has been a transformative aspect of this learning journey. Previously, negativity clouded my approach to challenges, but now, faced with difficulties, I can immediately reflect on the positive aspects of my growth.
