A History and Impact of the Industrial Revolution in England

The Industrialization revolution took many villages in England by storm, bringing about huge changes to the daily lives of many villagers. Technological advancements in these rural villages were responsible for urbanization. Politically, factory owners and factory bosses gained a great deal of power; however, the influence of the church remained strong. The economy shifted from its agricultural focus as many factories sprouted up. There were huge social changes, as family roles shifted greatly. These changes combined and had a lasting effect on society.

Much advancement in technology was responsible for the huge economic changes. Agriculturally based villages quickly saw numerous factories spring up, and steam powered engines brought along railroads, which allowed easier transportation. One thing that remained constant in the economy was the influence of coal. There was a greater dependency on coal as time passed, and it's importance also increased as time passed.

As the factories became an important center of commerce, the balance of power shifted. Factories owners and the factories bosses gained a great deal of power.

This isn't shocking considering that large masses of peasants started to invade these villages, as factories were a major source of employment. Throughout these changes, landowners still retained control although farming was no longer the sole base of the economy. The church also remained a huge influence in the lives of everyone, including the monarchy and the poorest of the peasants.

The Industrial Revolution also had an impact on the rural villages of England, shifting the roles of each family member greatly.

The men of the family lost their jobs because of how much cheaper it was to hire women and children. Work hours were no longer determined by sunrise and sunset; workdays were long and hard. One thing that remained unchanged was the influence of the church on the lives of the peasants. The commons, which were public lands, also remained, though it was significantly reduced due to the enclosure acts. Social changes were huge due to the constitution of the factories.

Industrialization significantly changed England. Many people flocked to the rural villages, which eventually lead to the construction of tenements. Street lamps also became popular showing how industrialization really succeeded in modernizing society. The Industrial Revolution had an impact branching into all the major aspects of society. The economy of rural villages no longer focused as heavily as they once did on agriculture. Children went from doing household chores and simple tasks to working long hours in the factories. Although the industrial revolution brought numerous transformations, the church still had a strong influence in society.
