Through my undergraduate degree, I have learned that mechanical engineering is more than just construction. I have come to appreciate the dynamics of complex systems, control systems, and robotic systems. This is why I want to pursue a Masters's degree in Mechanical engineering at Syracuse University to widen my scope and understand these systems better.
During my last year in High school, I was confused about what to study at the undergraduate level. Although I had my eyes set on either Engineering or medicine, it was still not clear.
I met with one of my Science teachers who has always been my guide and friend.
He said to me “ why not pursue a Bachelors's degree in Mechanical engineering? you are good at mathematics, physics, Engineering drawing, and chemistry”. He added Mechanical engineering is like the mother of all engineering with practical application in almost all industries, medicine inclusive.
My research interests lie in the pattern formation and investigation of the dynamics of a range of complex systems (such as robotic systems, spacecraft, aerial vehicles, flow control, and smart indoor environments), Understanding the behavior of systems by studying system parameters such as critical point, equilibria, and relative equilibria, limit cycles, stability, bifurcation and chaos, the study of devices used to command, regulate and manage the behavior of systems.
I graduated with Second class honors (Upper division) from the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, Ghana on the 27th of July, 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical engineering.
I achieved in-depth theoretical as well as practical Knowledge about mechanical systems, structures, design concepts, basic electronics and electrical machines.
My undergraduate thesis was based on the design of a gutter clearing system which was aimed at improving the sanitation of the environment as well as reducing significant health risk.
Furthermore, during my Undergraduate studies in Ghana, I participated actively in a number of extracurricular activities.
I was the Vice-president of the International students’ body and helped organize various academic and social functions for the international students’ body. One of such programs was a campaign for students suffering from mental health issues, the need for, and how to ask for help.
Upon the completion of my Undergraduate degree, I enrolled in the National Youth Service Corps which is a one year mandatory programme for all Nigerian graduates. I am presently still undertaking this program and I am an employee at the Federal Institute for Industrial Research, Oshodi, Nigeria. My time at the research institute so far has given me basic foundation about research and development work and has greatly contributed to my general knowledge as a whole. I have developed general knowledge about transforming research work from the prototype and equipment division into working prototypes.
After completing the Master’s program in Biomedical Engineering at Syracuse University, I plan to build a career in research and development within the industry where my academic qualifications will not only be used to achieve my research goals but also make important contributions to the field of engineering and to also impact the global community. I am fully aware that there will be challenges along the way, but I believe I have the resilience and confidence to continue to self-motivate myself to fight and succeed.
I chose Syracuse University because it suits my research interests due to its advanced academic curriculum and world-class research groups. I believe it is the best environment for me to gain experience and achieve my goals while keeping in line with the university’s goals.
In my efforts to broaden and improve my knowledge and fully pursue all of my academic passions, I hope to have the privilege of attending your esteemed university and contribute my best to the field of engineering. Thank you for reviewing my application and I look forward to an exciting and rewarding association with your prestigious university.
