The power of human mind, to not just guess but to say with certainty that something is true, that's magical. My perception of mathematics has gradually changed throughout my Sixth Form experiences to the point I am convinced to further my studies in it. The main aspect that fueled my interest was when it came to deriving and proving mathematical concepts and formulae. Newton's or Leibniz's controversial proofs for the first derivatives swept me away, as it made me realize that maths is not just a tool used by other sciences but it's beauty lies in what we potentially can discover from just using what we know is true.

It is not a coincidence that trigonometry and proofs were my favorite topics.

What made them so appealing to me was the flexibility in approaching problems in different manners as there were multiple ways to derive identities and prove theorems. 'Nature and Nature's laws lay hid in night:God said, Let Newton be! and all was light.

' I started thinking about it and realized that the laws of nature are the mathematical thoughts of God. The beauty of shapes and patterns around us connect us to that mathematics is actually everywhere!!!

A role model for me is Richard Feynman.I idolize his way of thinking where he spent hours on even simple mathematical concepts and considering how to apply them to their full potential.

As Feynman states, I don't know anything, but I do know that everything is interesting if you go into it deeply enough.

Imagine if everyone had the same mindset as him, what we could do with basic maths and trigonometry would be limitless. Isaac Asimov's, 'How Did We Find Out the Earth is Round?'showed that by only using the Pythagorean Theorem we were able to find the circumference and radius of the earth.

I am also a formally trained maths mentor to teach younger students. Here I love sharing my knowledge and learned the Importance of building relations and using different stimuli to explain new concepts and linking them for their understanding. I have also led a team conducting outdoor eco projects; one significant project setting up a systematic grid of labelled survey poles in a forested area, which served as the foundation for students to conduct statistical research.I enjoy working in groups and helping people in need as I have undertaken a leadership role in a non-profit CCA caring for special needs children and taking part in a go-kart making project on a weekly basis. We sell food in the school to fund a charity program in Africa to fight polio. I love making people feel happy and make this world an even better place! These diverse experiences have taught me the importance of cooperation and time management. I also play piano to serve at a local church. My faith has kept me strong in time of weakness. As Einstein said Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.

I always remind myself that there will always be people who belittle you, tell you that you can't, the most important thing is to move on from those criticisms and if there is any use, take them into consideration. If not just ignore it. Only with the hope that I'm going to something big tomorrow will encourage me to strive harder and harder towards my goal.

All in all, maths never ceases to amaze me. I love sharing my views of maths with other people from teaching juniors to healthy discussions with colleagues. I realize I will encounter even more difficult concepts at University but I am confident I can optimistically persevere. I am eager to meet other like-minded people and share insights with them to deepen our understanding of maths. I really hope that one day I can really contribute to society with my knowledge of maths and help even more people in need.
