Transformative Insights: Navigating AI for Societal Impact

During the seminar, when Mr.Roblas from the DOST-PCIEERD started talking about their national research agenda, when he went to discussing about the Philippineses space technology application I was personally invested. The Philippines space program(PhilSA) was only recently established in 2019, with the Philippines previously being the only southEast Asian country without a space program of its own. The first of the PhilSA projects Diwata 1 and 2 being a big success as it helped the Philippines monitor its own climate changes instead of paying other countries to do so.

They should focus research more on the space technology application, since Diwata 1 and 2 helped so many Filipinos as it prepared us for natural disasters without having to pay big amounts of money to other countries for information.

Based on the this seminar I want to focus my research on technology specifically on artificial intelligence for both quantitative and qualitative research because the benefits of understanding this kind of technology could help the Philippines solve current and future issues or at least make life a little bit easier if there is enough research done. During Dr.Domingo’s talk in the seminar I further understood how to create qualitative research as in his own research, one of the characteristics he used was naturalistic inquiry by focusing on his subjects personal opinions and perspectives and not intervening .

Among the research titles he had presented, the title “Pillars of the orient: a glimpse of the triumphs and aspirations of Filipinos in Asian scientist 100” had interested me the most since majority of the time Filipinos are often overlooked in their contributions to science so it is nice to see a research article that gives credit to those Filipinos who have earned it.

To end off with, I started the seminar not that interested in doing a research paper especially in the STEM field since it would require a lot of work and time but by the end of the seminar i was inspired to invest more time and understanding in picking a qualitative research topic that not only interests me but also helps others, which is why after careful thought I would be changing my research topic from a content analysis on apocalypse movies to a case study on artificial intelligence.

After the enlightening seminar, the prospect of delving into research, particularly focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) for both quantitative and qualitative studies, has ignited a newfound passion within me. Mr. Roblas's discussion on the Philippines Space Program (PhilSA) was particularly captivating. The establishment of PhilSA in 2019 marked a significant milestone for the country, especially since the Philippines was previously the only Southeast Asian nation without a dedicated space program.

The success of PhilSA's initial projects, Diwata 1 and 2, underscored the potential of space technology applications for the Philippines. These satellites played a crucial role in monitoring climate changes, empowering the nation to gather valuable information independently, without relying on other countries. The positive impact of this initiative in preparing for natural disasters without incurring substantial costs sparked my interest in exploring more facets of space technology application through research.

Dr. Domingo's insights during the seminar added another layer to my understanding of qualitative research. His emphasis on naturalistic inquiry, where researchers focus on subjects' personal opinions and perspectives without intervening, resonated with me. Among the research titles presented, "Pillars of the Orient: A Glimpse of the Triumphs and Aspirations of Filipinos in Asian Scientist 100" stood out. This title intrigued me, shedding light on the significant contributions of Filipinos in the field of science, a narrative often overlooked.

While I initially approached the seminar with a tepid interest in pursuing a research paper, my perspective underwent a transformation. I felt inspired to invest more time in selecting a qualitative research topic that not only captivates my interest but also holds the potential to benefit others. Consequently, after careful consideration, I have decided to shift my research focus from a content analysis on apocalypse movies to a case study on artificial intelligence.

Embarking on this research journey feels like a meaningful pursuit, aligning with my newfound appreciation for the impact of research, especially in areas that contribute to societal well-being. The seminar has instilled in me a sense of purpose, and I am eager to explore the realms of AI and its applications in addressing current and future challenges. This shift in research focus reflects my commitment to contributing valuable insights to the field and, ultimately, making a positive impact on the community.
