Is Animal Testing Ethical?

Uneccessary animal testing is still being perfered due to research showing that this process does create desire results. For many many years animals have been used at scientific 'experiments' cosmetically and scientifically. I will be informing in this essay how animals are used to test drugs and consumer products specifically cosmetically. Pharmaceutical companies and research institutions have been active in animal experiments because these institutions are charged with coming up with new drugs. What has been controversial about this topic is whether or not this should be banned based on certain implications.

Animal rights activists have been advocating for a ban for several years. Even though it was extremely sad what we do to these anaimals such as stipping their fur and test skin sensitivity and burning their eyes to test eye sensitivity, this procedure is beneficial. So therfore in my opinion I do not think animal testing should be banned. Animal experiments and testing should not be banned because it has been beneficial to humans and as crazy as it sounds even to other animals.

If one were to think about this if it were for animal testing we wouldn't have figured out some huge cures for things such as polio vaccines and different cancers.

An example is Blakemore, executive of the British Medical Research Council. In one of his speeches he mentions how people are so hung upon the 'cruetlly' part of animal testing tajta they can't focus on how incredible this process really is. Drugs such as Avastin used to treat bowel, breast, and lung cancer were only possible due to the experimental process on mice.

Critics have however been indicating a number of ethical implications linked with animal testing. As the critics point out, animal testing is a procedure that does not take into consideration the rights of animals. Which I can understand why this would be a concern, however I still fail to agree.

One thing I will agree on with the critics is how animals deserve to be treated fairly. Now this doesn't necessarily mean no testing but instead safe testing. A while back there was a testing done on animals to see if it really does truly mistreat them. Some people against animal testing and wish it was banned for good had some negative feedback saying the test is unethical. This experiment fundamentally was meant to test the level of toxicity of substances.These critical arguments have formed the argumentative side of banning animal testing. It may be justified to complain in terms of animal cruelty and such if there was legitimate evidence that these animal are truly being mistreated.

Considering that few cases have been reported regarding inhumane treatment of animals, this should not be ethical to ban animal testing. There is a considerably higher percentage of it being a beneficial process than not. Also, scientific testing on animals has made a huge impact on human lives. To look at the big picture what is more important an animal getting a slight burn in their eyes for a split second or millions of human beings dying from diseases that could be cured is we had things like animals to test on. Which we do and it is very advantageous to us. The most important thing to come out of all of this is safety. Animal testing assures us humans that our cometics are harmless to use. This concept is crazy to think about. Very few animals are sacrificed in these experiments but will help save millions of humans.

Many arguments have come up about animals suffering due to ineffective experiments. Even though these can seem agreeable, look at the big picture of all this, when it comes down humans are more important than animals. With that said, animal testing should not be banned for human sake. New technologies are in the making for more accurate testing and to be less harmful. Now going back to Blakemore, he once argued that the relationship between some of these animals and humans share the same genes. The way these animals respond to disease treatments is just the same as humans. Because there is no other alternative to test the effectiveness of drugs and consumer goods, the use of animals in experiments becomes justified. Banning animal testing seems like a brainless decision when we look at the statistics.

For everyone that wants a ban on animal testing you should really think twice. Many arguments that have come out about banning this are very short and not much to say and there is a reason for this. Approximately 5 billion animals are consumed as food annually compared to that, only 17-22 million animals are used for in research annually. Anesthesia is used today to numb the body during operations because it was successfully tested on animals 6 % of animals do are experiencing pain (not death). AIDs research also relies heavily on animal testing. If a cure is ever going to be figured out for this disease we will need to experiment on animals. We need to focus on the future of cosmetics and medicine and not be so concerned about the animal being tested harmfully.
