Categories: CultureEducation

Cultural Sensitivity can be defined as the abilities of individuals to learn, respect and understand people who are from different cultural backgrounds. With global diversity, commonly, people from different nations and backgrounds work in numerous companies, factories or small workplaces which affects productivity as well as the environment in the workplace, due to the differences in culture, language and beliefs of people work there. The first main cultural barrier in the workplace is the language which creates communication difficulties among the workers which leads to misinterpretation or confusion among them and that could impact the proficiency of the working party (Alesina and La Ferrara 2005).

For example, English is the international language even then many individuals from other countries might not speak it fluently or might have difficulty in understanding the native speakers due to which they might skip some important parts of the conversation.

Therefore, this problem can be solved by the employers or team leaders by speaking simply or plainly so that they can understand.

Other ways that employers can use to improve sensitivity in the workplace, by learning some basic knowledge of cultures which decreases the gap between workers and employers.

It is indeed hard to learn about so many cultures, but they can gain some knowledge through short conversations with their employees or workers which helps them to understand their thoughts, beliefs, culture as well as demonstrates their respect towards the workers. Moreover, appreciating workers or giving them monthly rewards can also make workers happier as well as comfortable with their work and thus they can even do more better at their job, in this way people are more likely to stay in the same job for a longer period.
