Placed in 4th platoon as a gunner in the second squad, his exemplary performance led to a rapid promotion from Private (PVT) to Private First Class (PFC) within just three months. In 2011, Esquivel's outstanding skills earned him second place in stinger gunnery, accompanied by an Army Achievement Medal. Undeterred, he continued to excel, clinching the top gun title for stinger gunnery in 2012 and earning another Army Achievement Medal, along with the rare opportunity to fire a live stinger missile.
Recognizing his dedication and proficiency, Esquivel attained the rank of Specialist (SPC) on October 1, 2012. His list of accolades includes the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the National Defense Service Medal, underscoring his commitment to excellence.
