I learned a lot from this class regarding all sorts of skills for communication and public speaking. I know that every minute of every day, people communicate something, either verbally or nonverbally. Strangely enough, no one really knows how exactly humans naturally evaluate conversations. Since it is such a big part of life, it even makes my experience in this communication class more valuable and precious. For example, I learn that one of the most crucial aspects of anyone’s life is relationships.
Humans, in particular, put emphasis on family, friends and significant others.
These types of relationships are called “interpersonal relationships”. The only way to keep those connections healthy and growing is through communication, but often it’s hard to know exactly how to achieve that in our current digital age. Using the right words and understanding the differences of how people converse is key to truly learning about someone.
Adapting to the most effective communication for that certain person makes conversation easier and builds a deeper connection.
Also, another thing communication class emphasizes is the importance of having both parties influence the conversation. Though this may seem like the definition of what conversing is, this idea is more about making sure the people involved are interacting the same way. Everyone knows how awful it is to have one person put more work into the conversation than the other, so checking for mutual influence can be important to determine how strong the relationship actually is. Additionally, when engaging in interpersonal relationships, it’s crucial to keep in mind how everyone is self-disclosing.
The key to intimacy is to share information about ourselves, but sometimes it may be hard to know what exactly that should be.
By taking this communication class, it allows me to really become more aware of how I should present myself and, most importantly, how to interact with all the people around me. In addition, it also allows me to realize the mechanics of talking greatly change how I view the world and relationships. Now that I have acquired the skills of communication, it definitely helps me a lot whether if it’s right now in school for class presentation or speech or later on in my career I have the ability to correctly express my claims, thoughts, and ideas towards my colleagues. For example, I learn not to start your formal presentation with “Hey, GUYS”, because some girls might find this offensive in a way that they’re not a guy.
Plus, start your speech with an attention-getter, then the introduction, then body paragraphs, follow up with that would be the conclusion and you should never forget to cite your source. If anybody really pays attention in me for my first speech and takes that and compares it with how I present my last speech, I believe the result is as obvious as anybody can see. Until now I can still remember how felt before my first presentation. I was NERVOUS as hell and now I kind of really get used to presenting so this class definitely helps me a lot. So, at last, I just want to say thank you to the class, and this is a much better class than what I expected coming in.
