My Motivation to Enter The W.E.B. Dubois Honor Society

The W.E.B. DuBois Honor Society is an academic organization that promotes achievement, leadership development, and involvement in positive community activities. I would be thrilled to be part of this organization because it offers limitless opportunities. By joining this honor society, I would be able to become a better person by demonstrating qualities of a good role model.

During my years as a student, I have displayed great examples of character, leadership, and service that I believe will qualify me to join this amazing honor society.

Having a good character includes traits like honesty, compassion, generosity, selflessness and way more.

I believe I have many of those traits which makes me a stronger person. I always have a positive attitude and a smile on my face which is essential for being a good character. I interact and communicate with anyone and embrace all ethnicities. I care for others and I show that by giving compliments, cheering them up, or helping them.

I try to be that person whom anyone can share their problems with so that I could help to find a solution and make things better. In 9th grade, I met a girl that was new to the school. She did not have any friends so I decided to talk to her, and little did I know that she would become one of my best friends. I knew being a new student was tough so I helped her feel more comfortable at school by sitting with her at lunch, introducing her to my other friends, and joining the same clubs.

Another trait that I have that makes me a better person is honesty. Honesty is crucial to a healthy relationship with ourselves and others. I never gossip or talk badly about someone even if my friends are doing it. I say things that are true as opposed to a person who is dishonest. I never betray my parent’s trust and I don’t keep secrets from them even though I think I would get in trouble. I am very honest and truthful when it comes to tests because I do not want to violate the Centreville High School honor code. Lastly, I do kumdo outside of school which is a modern Korean martial arts. Its teachings emphasizes improving character and showing respect for others. Therefore, it taught me how to be respectful to others. Examples are bowing to others before we spar.

Also, I have the responsibility to help people put on their armour and teach them easy tips when sparring. I’ve served many leadership positions throughout my life. Last year, I was an ambassador at Centreville High School. My job was to help new students not feel overwhelmed or lost. I would walk with them to their classes and give a little tour of the school. I really enjoyed doing this because I love meeting new people and helping them. I am a teacher assistant for a Korean class at the Korean Central Presbyterian Church. I work with second graders and I help them with writing and speaking. I like being a teacher assistant because I love interacting with younger kids and also teaching them.

Lastly, I was a leader in a school project called Exploravision. I had to make sure our group was on task and everyone had an equal amount of workload. I made sure to get all the assignments completed and help other teammates when needed. I have volunteered in many different activities and organizations throughout my life. Recently I have volunteered in a organization called Rise Against Hunger. It is an international hunger relief organization that distributes food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable to end hunger by 2030. I also volunteered in a Halloween party at Facets Barros circle community center. I helped with crafts and games for the children there. It was a great opportunity in helping out our local community. Every Fridays I peer tutor one of my close friend. I help her with geometry homework and studying as best as I can. It makes me happy that I am able to help someone do better in school and get good grades. This year I have joined the Red Cross, Halt club, Green Team, and Good Neighbors club in school that provides excellent service opportunities.

Overall I love being involved in the community and school. I plan to continue volunteering and help to make a positive change.
