My life story is a spiritual odyssey that transcends poverty, social barrier, and other nuisances. But God and His countless surprises have served as my refuge and strength. Only when I reflected on the things that happened in my life did I realize that everything contributed to who I am now a successful person; an educator. I believe that every person has a role to play in this little planet of the big cosmos. Though our world is just a dot in the universe, every living being that inhabits the earth is destined to do something great for humanity in whatever ways they could or in whatever opportunity they have.
As a teacher, it is very essential to maintain the passion keep burning in our hearts; the passion that gives us the feeling of intense enthusiasm towards enriching the minds and hearts of the 21st century learners.
To fulfil this purpose, professional growth is I think one of the enablers of passion that a teacher should have.
Increasing professional growth isn't just for our position to be raised moreover; it is needed so that we can deliver quality professional service to the students in maintaining and enhancing their knowledge and skills as globally competitive individuals.
Likewise, it is also vital to treat our students as our own family.
They need utmost protection and guidance as we are considered as their second parents at school. Treating them as such halts the walls that serve as the hindrance to a better relationship between us.
Finally, let us teach with compassion and with a heart that sees the brilliance of every student.
Certainly, we must teach them the different topics, issues and concerns written on the book but we must not forget to teach them from the heart. Teaching them the values, ethics and morals that will hone their character and personality as a human being is far more important than the manuscripts.
Considering the enablers I have mentioned above, I can visualize my future self as a phoenix; a legendary bird having plumage of colours which represent versatility and flexibility. As a teacher who has gone through this online seminar and workshop, I was able to deepen my awareness on being a passionate educationalist and just like a phoenix; I will soon rise up as a revitalized and invigorated public school teacher fulfilling my oath of providing excellent and quality education for the youngsters. I will rise up like a phoenix from the fire and I will spread my wings and fly higher than what I did before. I will enliven the passion of teaching despite of the hardships of being into this profession.
To accomplish my visions, I plan to understand my self even more as a teacher hence providing a better education to my students. Who you are comes through and characterizes your every performance as an educator. As a teacher we should be comfortable with our role of educating and cultivating the skills and abilities of our students. I also have the idea of consistently putting my students' needs first since every student is different. Every single intelligent, forgetful, smiling, moody, enthusiastic, apathetic, reflective, short-sighted little (or big) human being that walks into the classroom on a daily basis has their own storyone full of promise, heart-break, and complexity.
What does every single student needabsolutely, positively have to haveto succeed inside and outside of the classroom? Every student needs self-knowledge; who are they and how do they relate to the world around them; where have they been and where they are going? Every student also needs inspiring models which act as scaffolding, illuminate possibility, provide a pathway, and give them something to anchor their thinking to when everything else seems abstract and academic. They also need learning strategies; smart, intelligent, useful, and flexible learning strategies. Furthermore, every student needs feedbacks, not judgment because a feedback helps and acts as guidance while judgments are personal and emotional and tend to hurt a student in one way or another. Lastly, every student needs creative spaces and tools since creativity isn't something that's added onit's an honouring of a basic human need for self-expression and self-direction.
In addition to this, I would also like to build collaborative partnerships with my students; collaboration which is a reciprocal partnership between the educators who share mutual goals that benefits all students, the school and with each other. As teachers we should collaborate with our colleagues, students and with the parents to plan and sustain a safe environment where students work together innovatively and effectively. Every one of us has a purpose in life; some are still searching while others have already found it. As what the American author Mark Twain said 'The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.'
Once we found our purpose in life, let us do it meaningfully and be fearless in facing the consequences of our responsibility. As the saying goes, 'Teachers, like leaves, everywhere abound; effective teachers are fruits rarely found' which undoubtedly explains that there are effective teachers as many as the leaves but teachers who really walk their talk all the time are rarely found like the fruits of trees. This saying gives me an inspiration to strive and become an effective teacher even if it means a quest for a lifetime. To my fellow educators, let us be passionate in teaching to give way to a much better future, for the young minds and the whole of humanity.
