Former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill once said, "Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm". Even though I never define my obstacles as 'failures'. I mark my success by my repeated perseverance through adversity. I have faced many challenges over the years, from poverty to coping with trauma of losing my father whom I shared a very special bond with. I deserve this scholarship because I have the strength and determination to achieve my goals, no matter what hurdles I have to overcome.
I was not born a bright student.
Learning at an early age created a stupendous challenge. Life was not rosy for me as a young boy. My parents' meagre income was barely enough to cater for our household which included my elder siblings. I lived in darkness for seven(7) years because our single room apartment had no access to electricity. Inspite of all these challenges, I never gave up on my quest to be a good student.
I had to either use candles, kerosene lanterns or even depend on the moon to study at night. Sometimes, I had to copy notes from my mates' textbooks since I had none. Gradually,I became better in my academics.
During my first year in High School,I discovered a craze for branded T- Shirts amongst the youth mostly High School students. I stumbled on a penchant for business and entrepreneurship. Together with a few like-minded friends, I commenced a start-up clothing line named "WEIRDO CLOTHING". In the first few months, we gained popularity and business was good.
Unfortunately, mismanagement coupled with lack of a running capital saw the collapse of my start-up. Rather than see the collapse as a failure,it relatively soared my zeal in business and entrepreneurship. Offering Business Administration in Ashesi University will enable me acquire all the necessary skills and expertise to make my dream a reality.
Unfortunately for me, my father, who had been the backbone to our family sadly passed on to eternity during my West African Secondary School Certificate Examinations(WASSCE). I was distraught. News reached me just when I was about entering the examination hall for the English Language paper. Despite being in an utter state of shock, I did not let it deter me from giving out my best. After results were released, I was the only candidate from my school to score an "A" in English Language. Also, I was the only candidate whose aggregade of best six(6) subjects was "06". I got a job working briefly at "TRINITY KITCHEN" eatery after school. Currently, I am enrolled on an online International Business Challenge called "X Culture" .
Why do I need this scholarship? Because I have the passion and grit to become a trusted member of the business and entrepreneurial community. With my education, I can help reduce the bane of unemployment by setting up business to employ qualified workers, offering them better conditions of service and also to solve societal problems. Eventually, I can also contribute to boost the economy of Ghana through taxes, investments and foreign exchange earnings. You are not just helping me get through university. You are improving the quality of life for countless families and making Ghana a better country in years to come. I acknowledge your consideration and when selected, I will strive hard to make Ghana a better country to reside in.
