What Is Animal Cruelty and How Can We Stop It?

The shocking number of animal cruelty cases reported every day is just the tip of the iceberg. Unlike violent crimes against people, cases of animal abuse don’t seem to be compiled by state or federal agencies, making it difficult to calculate just how common they are. However, we can use the information that is available to try to understand and prevent cases of abuse. Animal experiments are cruel, unreliable, and even dangerous to the animals and environment, so people should stop possible forms of animal cruelty by using cosmetic products that doesn’t test on animals.

Animal cruelty can take many different forms. It includes overt and intentional acts of violence towards animals, but it also includes animal neglect or the failure to provide for the welfare of an animal under one’s control.

As a result of there being so many possible forms of animal cruelty, state and territory animal welfare legislation does not attempt to define it in an exclusive way; rather, animal cruelty is described generally as any act or omission that causes unnecessary or unreasonable harm to an animal.

Millions of Animals Suffer and Die in Testing, Training, and Other Experiments, Right now, millions of mice, rats, rabbits, primates, cats, dogs, and other animals are locked inside barren cages in laboratories across the world. They suffer in pain, suffer from extreme frustration, ache with loneliness, and long to be free. Just for our satisfaction and luxury. In the article “Information about Animal Testing” (2017) PETA says: ‘Hundreds of thousands of animals are poisoned, blinded, and killed every year in archaic product tests for cosmetics, personal-care products, household cleaning products, and even fruit juices.

Although more than 1,300 companies have banned all animal tests, some corporations still force substances into animals’ stomachs and drip chemicals into rabbits’ eyes. These tests often produce inaccurate or misleading results—even if a product has blinded an animal, it can still be marketed to you.

We must protect our planet and save the creatures living with us on the same planet. Using cruelty free produces will stop those selfish acts from companies looking only to make profits and do not care about any rules, regulations or legislations. Our planet and the animals living with us will be in a better position in this case. Campbell (2018) found 7 ways Cruelty-Free Products Help Save the Planet, firstly, Cruelty-free products use less chemicals. the chemicals that are commonly used in products tested on animals are harmful to not only those to apply them to their skin, but to the planet. Instead, select more natural ingredients that are the best choice for humans and the planet. It also makes it easier to go green. companies dedicated to creating cruelty-free products are those developing natural and more sustainable ingredients and materials. From their makeup and skincare lines to the packaging, they are using materials that are more eco-friendly, making them a better choice for the health of our planet. Cruelty-free saves animals who are a major part of the planet and the food chain. as discussed in the past paragraph, animal testing is an issue around the world, and cruelty-free products are here to put a halt to this maddening problem.

Cruelty-free products companies use chemicals and ingredients that have already been determined to be safe, sticking to their mission to leave animals unharmed and in their natural habitat where they belong. Also, many companies that make it their business to go cruelty-free have a vested interest in issues plaguing our planet, like animal species extinction and global warming. In addition, these products help spread the word, companies that promote their cruelty-free products are passionate about what they do and they’re not afraid to spread the world about the importance of buying these types of products. Spreading awareness of the risks associated with products that use animal testing is a great way to inspire the movement towards a cruelty-free world. Finally, it makes for better citizens of the world, Nielsen (2015) survey found the factor of products being “not tested on animals” was the most important packaging claim for those who were surveyed, with over half of respondents 57% citing it as “very” or “moderately” important. The emphasis on this as an important factor in shopping for makeup and skincare means cruelty-free shoppers are becoming better citizens of the world: ensuring consideration for the world’s animals and environment.

Humans are clever in finding alternatives. many alternatives and good products are available in market. Some are natural products which can be used for many purposes such as beauty, medical, food, etc. You may have assumed that almost all major cosmetics companies were on board with alternatives to cruelty to animals, but there are some that still pay to poison and kill. It isn’t always easy to know which brands are completely cruelty-free. In the article “Cosmetics: What are the alternatives to animal testing?” Surugue (2019) discussed that the range of cruelty-free cosmetics available is expanding. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the ethical issues of animal testing and demanding new kinds of products. Companies are moving fast to be a part of this movement, and in the European Union, India, Israel, and Norway bans have now been implemented, making it illegal to test cosmetics on animals within those countries’ borders or to sell cosmetics that have been tested on animals elsewhere in the world. There are two main alternatives to animal testing; In-vitro techniques and human volunteers.

New products, especially those that contain new ingredients, still need to be rigorously tested for safety purposes the use of in-vitro techniques has progressed quickly. This method includes performing a test in a controlled environment. In this context, scientists can study and test compounds on human cell cultures. Almost every type of human and animal cell can now be grown in the lab. Human volunteers can even replace animals in specific studies, at advanced stages of the testing process. now, skin sensitivity testing of cosmetics is based on work done with human volunteers. according to PETA (2018) Here are some of the top cosmetics brands whose products are still tested on animals: Avon, Benefit, Clinique, Victoria’s Secret, Maybelline and Makeup Forever. therefore, you may consider boycott them to contribute in saving the beautiful, peaceful creatures.

In conclusion, cruelty towards animals is absolutely horrible, and actions should be taken by us to stop these inhumane acts. Moreover, Consumers Should educate themselves about this important fact that most companies are cruel to animals. Therefore, they mustn’t purchase products that tests on animals but use cruelty-free products instead. Plus, raising awareness about this act because most people don’t know about the process that most of these horrible companies follow and they purchase their products not knowing what and how this product has been made. Nonetheless, people should warn or raise awareness amongst their family and friends, also support industries that make cruelty free products. Adding, Companies with cruelty-free product should put labels so that consumers know what their buying and are aware of how the product has been made.
