Animal cruelty by definition is “the infliction by omission or by commission by humans of suffering or harm upon any non-human". Animal cruelty is dishonorable. Animals don’t have a voice and can’t speak up for themselves, therefore abusing an animal is inequitable. We all have a voice and can speak up if we are being hurt but animals cannot.
The abuse of animals IS a crime. For animal cruelty in Canada, the law includes both summary and indictable charges.
If you’re charged for a summary misdemeanor you can be charged five thousand dollars at max and/or be imprisoned for a maximum of six months. If you’re charged for an indictable misdemeanor you can be imprisoned for a maximum of two years. In many cases people try to justify their actions. Some examples are;
The definition of soul states that it is “the spiritual... part of a human being or ANIMAL.
Therefore, yes animals do have a soul. “Animals don’t reason, think, or feel pain like humans do”. Pain can be considered as many different things. Pain is suffering, discomfort, it can be mental or physical, etc. Therefore, you can't say that animals don’t feel pain like we do because we all consider/ feel pain differently.
Animals do kill each other just like humans do. Animals and humans have many similarities. Human abuse is not tolerated in today’s society and with the similarities between humans and animals the excuse for abusing an animal because animals kill each other is not a valid reason.
When humans abuse each other, it is not because humans kill each other, it has a very different meaning so the abuse of animals cannot be justified by “animals kill each other”.
In conclusion the abuse of animals is shameful, and we need to work together to stop it. Too many people believe it is okay because humans are “superior” to animals and we need to show people that animals are a gift from god. We need to make laws stricter so we can try to stop the amount of animal abuse that happens. As a final statement I want to leave you with this quote that I feel describes what I am trying to say perfectly.
