I had this experience when I was in high school in Turkey. I spent a lot of money on stuff which are not needed or extra things. Due to spending money excessively, my parent limited my weekly pocket money. During that time, I wanted to buy a music player as I lost my iPod when I was in middle-school. I was jealous and feel self-conscious when I saw my classmates have their own device. Due to deduction of pocket money, almost one year is needed to collect enough money for a music player.
I asked to increase the pocket money, but my parents didn’t agree that when they know that I would use the money for buying iPod. I had an angry argument or disagreement with them because they think I was unable to take good care of my phone.
I didn’t go to school for almost 2 weeks and skipped the classes to help peddlers to earn some money.
After earning enough money, I wanted to quit the job, but peddler hold my arm and didn’t let me leave. In fear, I asked someone on the street to use her phone in secret and called my dad for his help. My dad arrived with police immediately and rescued me out from these peddlers. Interprent: From the experience above, spending money excessively causes me to put myself into danger. If I did not spend money for unnecessary thing, I will not be limited for my pocket money and wouldn’t skip my class to work illegally.
Additionally, my stubbornness also causes this event to happen because I assume that whatever I did was right. I did not listen to my parents to and their advice. This caused me to do wrong things. This event let me learn many moral values and qualities that I should not forget. Firstly, I must be a frugal person and not spend too much money on unnecessary things. Because money earned by parents is hard and it is used to earn a living for family. Secondly, I should listen to my parents’ opinion. Of course, everybody makes mistakes, and no one is perfect. However, parents’ advices are very valuable because they experienced more things than us. I felt ashamed and awkwardness on my awful attitudes towards my parents. I also felt guilty that I should not be so greedy they do everything just for us and they experienced more than us. That is why, we should listen to their advice all the time.
I think that experience taught me a lot of moral values. I became fully aware of what is my weaknesses and aware that theses weaknesses have to be overcome as soon as possible. I should also warn my twin about my experienced so she will not do the same mistakes as I did. The lesson of this event is do not be materialistic or advocating luxuries. I should keep in my head that I’m lucky that i have enough compared to some other people who do not have and struggling to survive. In my opinion the extra money should be used to help these people instead of buying extra unnecessary things. Besides, I should take good care of everything I have. These moral values are useful as it could be followed in our daily life.
Learning a lesson from mistakes are important and we call them experience. These experience should be applied in our future when we proceed to join work force. The moral values such as listen to elders’ advice, we can get a better idea from others. Besides, it also improves the relationship and increase the quality. I will also be more careful in buying things for my family. This can help us to save more money and prevent massive wastage. Lastly, in future life, I will able to teach the next generations that these good moral values ,beginning my son and to my grandchildren.
