Professional Identity and Stewardship - Part I: Peer Interview NameInstitutionInstructorCourseDate Professional Identity and Stewardship - Part I: Peer InterviewTo complete this paper, I interviewed a fellow peer, John Alex, who works in the maternity department about different aspects related to leadership and his role as a healthcare practitioner. The interview was an oral interview where I asked Alex different questions noting down Alex's responses under each question. The main aspect of focus was professional identity and stewardship in the healthcare facility and what the client's understanding pertaining to different aspects surrounding this area.

The interview took about 40 minutes.Client's Role as a Health Care Team MemberMr. Alex defined his role as providing healthcare services to pregnant women where he helps his clients to give birth as well as ensure that the newborns are healthy by administering the right healthcare interventions to protect the infants from infections (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019). This department is very crucial since poor healthcare services may lead to diseases affecting the newborns as well as the mother that may have negative health effects on both the mother and her baby.

This might affect the achievement of healthcare goals in the facility (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019). Due to the complexity of this process, it is important to work as a team in ensuring that mothers are safe and access quality healthcare services in the department. This is because the achievement of healthcare goals is not a responsibility of one person rather the performance of all individuals in a department (J.

Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019). It is also the role of everyone to correct any mistakes or medical errors performed by one of the team members as this may negatively affect the performance of the department. Client's Definition of Professionalism and How Professional Responsibility Influences His WorkProfessionalism involves adhering to the set guidelines that are meant to guide healthcare practitioners in their conduct while at the same time preventing negative behaviors that may lead to problems at the facility. This also involves healthcare practitioners carrying out their roles and responsibilities effectively as this is the main reason for their employment (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019). Healthcare practitioners are employed to ensure that healthcare facilities achieve their healthcare goals by performing their duties sufficiently. A failure to perform one's responsibilities will negatively impact an organization in achieving its goals and objectives. (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019). Professional responsibility impacts a healthcare practitioner's work by restricting the individual towards certain rules and regulations. This may limit the individual in taking part in certain behaviors that may negatively impact his image as a healthcare professional. Any decision made should be aimed at improving the health of patients and the infants which is the main duty of healthcare professionals in the maternity department (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019).Client's Consideration of Leaders in His Organization as Stewards of Health CareLeaders in the healthcare organization are stewards of healthcare which has led to the high performance in the organization since the performance of a healthcare facility is the combination of different performances of different departments (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019). Most of the interventions implemented in the facility are aimed at improving the delivery of healthcare and not to harm patients or staff members which is an indication of the management's efforts to enhance healthcare delivery in the healthcare facility (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019). Most of the leaders are also good examples with some of them collaborating with other staff members to develop effective solutions to some of the problems affecting different departments. There is also an effective communication process where staff members are able to reach their leaders for any issues. This is a strategy meant to enhance efficiency in the organization leading to improved patient outcomes (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019). The leaders are also dedicated to ensuring that every healthcare department has sufficient resources as limited resources may hinder the provision of healthcare services in the facility. Client's View on Leaders Exercising Professional Advocacy and Authenticity As Well As Power and Influence When Working With ColleaguesProfessional advocacy and authenticity, as well as power and influence, are important in a healthcare organization due to the nature of this sector. It is important for healthcare professionals to be satisfied before they are able to provide their services to patients (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019). Professional advocacy will ensure that healthcare practitioners have the necessary resources required in performing their roles effectively as well as a conducive environment. This will also help in addressing some of the issues such as nursing shortages that cannot be addressed by the healthcare practitioners (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019). By leaders exercising their power and influence, they are able to inspire and motivate other members of the organization by being good examples. This is because most of the staff members look up to the leaders for guidance in different aspects of their work. Leaders play an important role in mentoring other members of an organization which can be effectively achieved if leaders exercise power and influence when working with colleagues (J. Alex, personal communication, June 6, 2019).
