One Thing I’m Afraid to Lose

Categories: People

People always ask “if you could go back in time and change something, what would it be?". Well, actually my answer is I do not want to go back in time and change something, I just want to stop the time. Turning to nineteen this month, I suddenly realized how quickly could time pass. Years passed, something remains meanwhile something changed. I am no longer a child but a university student. Ages have left its traces on both my parents and grandparents faces.

Old friends and new friends are coming and leaving. And I am sure that thing I am afraid to lose is the people that I love. There are a few people who are very precious to me. If I lose any of them, I would be devastated. I have got a dream recently and that dream made me feel unsafe and real.

My mother was suddenly hospitalized when I was having lesson at school. I went to that hospital and she was lying on that white bed.

She looked so weak with the drips attached to her wrists and wore that oxygen mask. I was too afraid of losing her and I knew it was a possibility. We are not immortal. My family cried as we saw our mother suffer from this pain she never has have. Then, I woke up with tears. I rushed to my mum room to check whether she is still sleeping on the bed. When I saw her sweetie face, I released. This dream taught me to treasure life.

Indeed, something happened to impress me more deeply that realization of treasuring life. One Friday evening, while I was walking home after school on a busy street, a car suddenly went out of control. It came directly into my path. Fortunately, I escaped from death by inches. Within those seconds, I saw my life flash by. That shock made me realize how precious life is. Without life, I will not be able to enjoy all the things I take it for granted. I will never be able to spend the time with the ones I loved. It is obvious that grandparents are fun and grateful to be around us. It is not only do they spill pearls of wisdom, but also fulfill our lives with abundance of love and care. There is no words could be described as being around them. The love and affection shed by them are unmatched and they share a special bond with us.

My grandparents do not only become my buddies when it comes to having unlimited fun, they also inculcate good habits and moral values in me. While my parents try to provide all that they can to me for all-round development, my growing path is incomplete without my grandparents. Most of us have fun and sweet memories of spending childhood days with our grandparents. And, so do I. I used to live with my grandparents when I was young. They took care of me because my parents had to work. There is one thing I remember the most was they took me to the wet market and I was sitting in the shopping car. People always asked “is that your youngest daughter?” and they always got the same answer “No”. Well, I think probably because they look young. We both maintain a good relationship till now. After watching ups, I constantly get to fear about losing my loved ones.

My grandparents have been the one who have raised me since my childhood. They have been there for me whenever I have any problems. Either of them will still cook for me if I return home late from school. They are still the first person to care about me when I feel sick. They still give money to me even I have got a part-time job, they probably think that salary is not enough for my daily needs. They are expected from getting older and forgetful each day. It makes me feel anxious they might not be with me for longer time. They have become my entire world and my pillar of support.

All the life lessons that grandparents teach cannot be learned by reading, in any number of books or just by attending any classes. As grandchildren, it is our duty to take care and appreciate them in our family. We have the ability to light up our grandparents’ lives and bring them happiness. Giving them a sense of warmth and fulfillment. Let them know they are full of support and we always back them up like what they have done for us whenever they are in troubles. Visiting them will help us get happier either too. The time we have on this earth is short, but the time we can spend with our grandparents is even shorter. We should make the most out of intergenerational interactions with them before we realize it is too late to do so. Besides grandparents, Friendships are one of the most important relationships man have always cherished for centuries. Growing up is part of life, as well as the challenges that come along with it. Even though the struggles are hard, in the long run they make you stronger and a better person. My family is very important to me, especially when I need comforting, but friends are the ones you spend most of your time with growing up, and they are the ones who see you go through hard times and are always there for you.

Friends are the people whom we turn to when our spirits need a lift. They always by our side through thick and thin. They stand beside us even when our disposition is not perfectly right and will fight for us if we are oppressed. Therefore, it is clear that friends play a vital role in shaping who we are today. The past few years of my life, I have seen friends come and go. Yet, I have remained close with my oldest truest friends because we can be truthful and loyal to each other. My friends are one of the most important things in my life and I would probably be completely lost without them. I have a lot more to learn about growing up, but one thing I know for sure is the only way to have a true friend is to be a true friend. Apparently, relationships do come and go. But the good ones will still stay and all the memories will still last. Friends are so important to me and I cherish everything we go through together throughout these years.

Let the past remain in the past. I will do whatever I do to protect them and love them more because they are the one I loved and treasured the most. Simultaneously, they are also the one I am afraid to lose. If I could stop the time, I hope I could stop it right here. Unless I can still spend time with them, I can still talk and chat with them, most importantly I can still see and love them with all my heart. Seriously, I am too afraid to lose anyone of you, really…
