My Desire to Build Engeneering Career

My fascination with structures and being an engineer has always been embedded in me for as long as I could tell my right hand from my left hand, maybe because I was curious to see how different elements of various sizes, shapes, and states were combined together to form a gigantic structure standing on its own, I mean who wouldn’t be fascinated. I would visit construction site when I was younger, where I could feel the earth on my palm and every detail of my visit would linger at the back of my mind for a long time with questions to follow up.

Asking questions based on how what and when of a structure finally drove my curious mind to Civil Engineering. What explicitly inspires me is the fact that, any dream can be made into a reality.

When the time came to choose my department for my senior secondary school, moving into the science and technology class was only natural for me, there I felt at home as I do on all construction site thus far. I choose the subjects I enjoyed and need to be awarded for a degree in Engineering I chose Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, where Use of English was compulsory. Getting started in the university, I focused more on mechanics, mathematics, all structures related courses and AutoCAD to place myself in the mindset of a civil engineer. During my five year course of study, I was able to acquire altogether a yearlong of field experience from three different internship period. I worked on construction sites, where various forms of engineering are combined to achieve a great purpose, their interrelationships and benefits were also identified.

Being an athletic student all year in school taught me the benefits of perseverance, hard work, a good team player and determination which are crucial in all aspects of the working world. You have to keep your eye on the finish line. During my third year in school, I was offered the post of welfare director of the civil engineering student union association of my school, which helped increase my understanding of peoples need, ways of approach and importance of communication. In my fourth year, I was elected as the assistant sports director of all engineering students, here I learned to be a good leader by simply being a good follower. I was able to achieve a groundbreaking record for the highest participation of females in sporting activities by being creative, interactive, innovative and experimental with various activities which yielded a positive response.

I have been lucky to travel to 3 different continents. From the Arabian Desert to the flowing Holland waterways, beauty at its peak. Being confronted with such a vast selection of cultures has widened my perspective on the world, made me ready to embrace change and given me the ability to overcome problems which can seem insurmountable. During my visit to Europe, I visited four countries which includes France. The sympathetic view of Champs-Elysees and the Eiffel tower triggered more love and passion for construction and architecture. I was able to pick up some few words in French during my stay.

My national youth service has been unarguably one of the most interesting and knowledge filled time of my life, I hope to widen my base of knowledge in Engineering after my youth service with the help of your company.
