Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering

For a long time, I loved anything related to Science fiction and Spy fiction, be it movies or books. Solving problems has always been great fun. During my secondary education, I came across mechanical ciphers and became interested in how, during olden times, secret messages were shared. Ever since I have been fascinated by how information could be kept secure and intended to have a career in the same. During my Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering, I was introduced to the concept of information security and how it played an important role, as systems over the world were heading towards digitization. I then got a job in the field of security, as an Identity and Access Management Administrator & Developer. I have been working in the security domain for the past 6 years. It is during this time, I was exposed to different types of technologies like cloud-based services, SSO and had hands-on work experience with multiple identity and access management tools. Not only did I get to administer these tools, but I also got a chance to develop and provide customized solutions.

Identity and Access Management Team Lead

While I have gained some international exposure as an Identity and Access Management Team Lead, I realized there is still a lot more that I need to learn to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME). My experience pertains to only a part of the vast expanse of knowledge that comprises information security. I believe it is imperative to be up-to-date with the current times and cutting-edge technology available. Therefore, I decided to educate myself further, enhance my professional skills and explore the intriguing world of security. My Master’s degree in Information Systems Security from the University of the Cumberlands is going to help me do just that.

My first semester provided the first step in understanding the laws that govern information security and also expressed the never-ending importance of physical security. I look forward to the immeasurable knowledge that I will gain in my second semester, as I explore the enticing world of cryptography and application security.

Being mapped directly to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), National Security Agency (NSA) cybersecurity education standards and aligned according to the (ISC)2 CISSP Common Body of Knowledge, the program at the University of the Cumberlands provides a competitive edge and opens a plethora of opportunities which will help me excel.

Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Over the next five years, I hope to work as a security system analyst or a security system developer, where I’ll have opportunities to develop my skills, take on interesting and challenging projects, and work with people I can really learn from.

In ten years, I hope to be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and would like to find myself in a position to mentor others in the field, putting my experience to use in ways that help others achieve what I would have attained.
