King did everything that he preached, he did not preach or speak values that he himself did not follow. He did everything that he told everyone else to do. Clearly, Martin Luther King Jr. has changed the world for good. He gave African American people equal rights and fought his whole life for that.

Martin Luther King Jr. changed the world. Anyone that went to Elementary school has most likely heard of him. Martin Luther King had a vision of how he thought the world should be. Where black and white people can live together and be treated equally. Martin Luther King impact on major rights was huge. He was very involved with many well-known civil rights movements during the 1950s and 1960s.

In 1955 he started to become involved a lot in Montgomery, Alabama. He helped a lot with a boycott of the city buses. The boycott began because the bus company insisted that black people only ride in the back. His support to this gave a lot of a lot of attention to the problem. They gained lots of supporters from this. From this, the bus companies ended up changing their rules. The bus boycott is just one-time where Martin Luther King Jr. helped African Americans many times.

In March 1963, Martin Luther King gave his I Have a Dream speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial. There were 250,000 people in attendance. The I have a dream speech is one of the most famous speeches ever. “Weaving in references to the country’s Founding Fathers and the Bible, King used universal themes to depict the struggles of African Americans, before closing with an improvised riff on his dreams of equality. (HISTORY)”. After he gave his speech it was immediately recognized as one of the biggest speeches in history and also a sign of the success of his protest. During his speech, he talked about how he had a dream that black and white children will be able to walk hand in hand together. He also had a dream that sons of former slaves and sons of former slave owners would be able to agree to live together in peace and get along with each other. This speech was very important for many reasons, it brought lots of attention to the Civil Rights Movement. The Civil Rights Movement was a movement to attain basic privileges and rights of U.S. citizenship for African Americans. It was also an important speech because the entire nation heard it through radio and reprinted in newspapers and magazines. This speech made him a lot more known than before. After his speech, it helped congress move quicker in passing the Civil Rights Act. That set of laws were passed the next year in 1964. These laws helped give African Americans more equal laws than they have ever had.

Unfortunately, Martin Luther King was assassinated by a firearm on April 4, 1968, in Memphis Tennesee. He was shot dead while he was standing on a balcony of his room on the second floor at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. When King’s assassination news spread there were riots and major outbreaks of racial violence. This caused more than 40 deaths across the nation. There was also large property damage in about 100 cities in America. The man who shot Martin Luther King was a man named James Earl Ray. He was a 40-year-old escaped fugitive who later on confessed that he committed the crime. He was sentenced to 99 years in prison. At Martin Luther King's funeral, they played a tape of King speaking about how he wanted to be remembered after his death. “I’d like somebody to mention that day that Martin Luther King, Jr., tried to give his life serving others” (King, “Drum Major Instinct,” 85).
