Urban life comprises of a settlement that is in towns and cities that are well off in terms or development and infrastructure. Rural life is a settlement that is located outside of towns and cities like the countryside. When in it comes to development, technology, employment, amenities, utilities and population, there is no doubt that urban and rural life are two settlements that both offer a totally different experience. Most people ask, is rural or urban better? Both have their own advantages and disadvantages and people have different preferences.
First, the cities are densely populated. Many people especially the youth are relocating from villages and settling in towns because of better and variety of employment opportunities and careers. On the other hand, the countryside is sparsely populated as there are very few jobs that cannot cater for everyone with the fast-growing job market.
Second, in terms of schools, the standards of education in both rural and urban is the same. However, there are so many schools in the urban areas and all of them are of a good reputation academically. They also have well equipped libraries and advanced teaching equipment and laboratories. Their counterparts in rural areas are less equipped with smaller libraries that may not have enough books for everyone.
The cities are where you find all types of social amenities like schools, health services, entertainment venues, banks, shopping venues and transportation. Everyone can access them any time as they are distributed all over. Roads are well tarmacked and moving from one place to another is not a problem. On the other hand, these basic amenities are very few in villages and sometimes people have to travel long distances to the nearest towns just to access these amenities. Most roads are in poor conditioned and during bad weather like rainy seasons, it gets hard to go anywhere. . . , , , , ,
While city life is hectic, fast and complicated, rural life is not. Cities are filled with fast cars and all forms of transport and is almost always jostling with activity from morning to evening. Rural life is quite laid back relaxed, less busy with fewer activities.
The environment in urban areas is mainly buildings and roads. The cities are quite isolated from nature. There are fewer trees and flowers as they have been cleared to create space for development. The rural is however green and graced with all sorts of flora and fauna, and is filled with natural vegetation, mountainous landscapes, forests, streams and rivers. This makes the rural area a healthier environment unlike the urban which is filled with noise, traffic and pollution.
Another difference between rural and urban living is the standard or cost of living. People that reside in rural areas are more likely to own their own homes therefore they don’t have to pay rent. Meanwhile, people that live in the cities have to rent apartments and pay rent. Most people in rural areas are farmers thus they live on fresh produce from the farm. When these farm products reach the cities, they are further processed and sold to the residents at a higher price.
Even though rural and urban life is different in terms of diversity and standards of living, they too share a couple of similarities like routines, shared values and they are both places people choose to settle in. The gap that used to exist between these two lifestyles is narrowing down because of the developing and growing economy, advancement in technology and rapid urbanization. There are both rich and poor people in urban and rural areas. There is infrastructure such as schools and roads. , , , , ,
Just as people in the cities wake up early in the morning to rush to their respective places of work, people in the village wake up early too either to tend to their farms and animals or go to run their small businesses. Basically, the both have a daily routine that they follow and adhere to. There are many shared values that are exhibited regardless of where one hails from. For example, anyone from either rural or urban can be willing to help you if you’re in trouble. The faith values may also be similar as the same religions that you find in rural areas are also present in the urban. Also, they both abide to the same laws and regulations since they are both governed by the same government. ,
In conclusion, it is clear that both urban and rural life have their similarities and differences that one should carefully take into consideration especially if they’re trying to settle down permanently . I would advise anyone to first experience the best of both worlds before making a final decision as both have their advantages and disadvantages.
