As we go through our lives, we are all forced to make decisions about the directions in life that we choose to go. For me this is not any different. Often, we are faced with many choices and situations that are out of our control that take our lives off of our intended path. Sometimes it is for the best and sometimes it can cause us great frustration. Over the years, I have figured out who I am and the path that I was meant to follow.
A few years ago, I made a choice to further my education so I would be able to master my job and motivate others to do the same, as I knew that I wanted more and could give more to the organization.
This was not only a hard decision for me, but for my family as well.
It has been one of the most stressful but rewarding things that I am accomplishing for myself.
In just a few short months I will graduate with my BA and will be ready to escalate my career.
For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to help others that are in need.
Several years ago, I discovered that my passion was to work for a non-profit organization. The organization in which I work for is a federal assistance program for healthcare and nutrition. This program serves low-income pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children under the age of five. This program is also known as WIC.
I have worked for this organization now for over five years.
Over the years I have come to realize that money does not mean much when one is unhappy in a career, but I know working in this field will be more rewarding than money could ever be.
Although I am happy with my job, I am always looking for advancement in my career. The perception of knowing there is something else within gives me security of not becoming or feeling trapped. Everyone should take the time to figure out what we enjoy or not enjoy, what inspires us and what keeps us connected to ourselves. Throughout my whole life I have been a very outgoing and a personable person, having these traits has helped me decide where I wanted to take my life professionally.
I discovered early on that I had an interest in leadership, interacting with others, and confidently sharing my ideas. I feel my current job gives me the ability to apply my skills and grow as a person. I am surrounded by a lot of highly driven and successful people who genuinely care about those we work with and the community in which we live. I have freedom to be creative, but there is sufficient structure to ensure my creativity is in a direction that keeps our organization strong.
This organization has also given me an opportunity to balance my family, education, and my career and for that I am grateful. It has allowed me to continue my education so that I may apply my knowledge and become a larger asset to WIC. As a senior in college I have spent the last few years discovering my interests and exploring different options for my future. I have discovered a lot about myself and my interests, I am confident that a future with WIC is the fit for me.
I believe that in order to be successful in your career, you must enjoy what you are doing in life. If not, it can make things difficult and bring on many frustrations. Just the stressors can be very hard to get through and extremely overwhelming. I try to use the right coping skills to deal with my stress in a healthy manner, so it doesn't cause me mental and emotional strain. The ability of understanding my emotions will contribute to my personal, academic, and professional success, by helping me manage my stress level, stress has the ability to raise my blood pressure, which plays a role in my physical health.
It will help my performance in my workplace, which helps me navigate the social complexities of my workplace, this can also help lead and motivate others that I work with to excel. The more aligned your thoughts and beliefs are to your purpose and passions, the easier it becomes to make decisions, set and achieve goals, and keep "work sickness" from infecting your life. These reactions to stress contribute to my experience of emotional stress in wanting to make change. Stress disrupts balance, saps creativity and energy, and impedes the pursuit of personal passions. It affects productivity, morale and even how we interact with each other all the while robbing us of time and happiness. It eclipses the joy of working with a sense of obligation, self-sacrifice and a lack of control. Most important, make life about always being true to who you are. The quality of work performance is tied to work satisfaction, the longer you are satisfied, the longer you are likely to perform well.
