College students can continue to stay on task and not procrastinate, “The truth is, you will work better if you give yourself adequate time to turn in high-quality work”. Maintaining organization by making the proper time is key in order to achieve a well-balanced schedule in college. The first step to avoiding procrastination is planning ahead. Become adjusted to well-balanced schedule and avoid stress by not leaving an important task last minute. Staying on track with deadlines is crucial when there is a large assignment given. The best option is to break it down into smaller parts. Once a section is done, an important aspect of staying motivated is receiving a reward. It allows the person to know that with every action there is either a positive or negative consequence. Getting more work done can be easily assured if distractions such as electronics are at a distance. Managing the amount of time used properly in a daily basis will allow college life to be more organized and balanced.

There are different expectations that have to be met when writing in a high school English class then in college. Writing tends to become more of a mature level than just a simple essay, “College professors have different expectations regarding structure and argument than those that are usually found in high schools” in order to describe the differences found in the writing. Many high school teachers ask for a five paragraph essay that includes an intro, three sub points, and a conclusion. In college there will be other strategies used depending on what the professor needs. The strategy used when creating thesis starts to become more formatted. The thesis will state the argument and emphasis what side the writer decided to take. Creating a research paper for high school is most commonly information collected from the internet. As for college writing, it is more of an argument found in different resources that will be put together for stating a point. Even though the internet is used to find great resources, college student tend to use more primary sources. It demonstrates professionalism in the writing rather than only using one type of source. According to the University of Chicago “Instructors are asking of you is not just something better, but something different”. Instructors might see the writing as if it were lacking a spark, an intrigue. It is not just in essays but also in arguments with another peer. They will usually ask to write an argument based on a topic that will include an encouraging claim with back up included. It becomes less of an argument and more about stating a point with another person while respecting their point of view. The purpose of writing an argument is to express the thoughts about the certain subject while still trying to encourage the reader to agree.

In College, writing has to be done differently depending on the requirements. Some can explain clearly what they are looking for, while other instructors will give a simple statement to see what the student will do with it. It is necessary to understand the audience and go beyond what they are expecting. Many people believe that when writing an essay, the main idea is to find a point with backed up evidence. It usually starts out with a main idea and arguments take over. Once an idea starts, another one usually takes over. Being able to find just one reason that can support the idea is merely impossible. There will always be evidence that has a stronger support system then another. Having different evidence to support just one idea is important because the essay can go either way. It can make an essay more challenging but also more interesting. Another difference when writing in college then in high school is the consequences for plagiarizing.

It is preferred to paraphrase a block quote because it allows the instructor to know that the writer knows what they are talking about.
