I still remember the first day I stepped in Cebu. I was welcomed with the gushing sound of the waves and the cheers of my relatives waiting for us. At first, I did not expect much and I thought it would only be a usual vacation of visiting and exploring my parent’s hometown, but as time goes by and the longer I stayed, I began to embrace it as my home too. There is never a day wasted out there because every day I’ve had was a day that is full of excitement, new thrilling things and new experience.

Since then, my visits in this land have been something I looked forward to every year. Our hometown was in the city of Toledo. Though we only lived in a Bungalow that is quite small, and a bit crowded, nothing compares to the joy I have when I was there at my home with my relatives. We live a simple life there and what I like most when I visit there is that it is near the sea. Compared to the urban cities I used to live, in our place, you will surely feel the cold air breeze. Sunsets and sunrise are meaningful to watch there and the sea could also calm you. Aside from that, the people in Cebu are very hospitable.

Cebuanos value “pakikibayan” and being courteous when it comes to tourists and visitors. Even though you are new to the place, you will feel like you’ve been there for a year because they will treat you well. This is the reason why I easily felt like I’m a part of them even if I only stayed there for a short time. Our neighbors were chivalrous in giving foods and friendly to me. I am very lucky that I was able to meet those kinds of people, and I hope that if you visit our place, you’ll get to feel that way too!In addition to that, there are also a lot of hangouts and interesting places here that are surely perfect for selfies, road trips and sight – seeing. Most of the tourist spots in our place are rich in history because this is where the Spaniards first landed.

One of the scenic places is the Magellan’s Cross, the cross that signifies the propagation of the Roman Catholic faith. By visiting here, we can witness first – hand what happened during the period of Magellan’s expedition. Another place that you must see is the Simala Shrine, one of the well – known religious places in the Philippines, with thousands of devotees every week. It is interesting because it is known to be miraculous and you can also see a huge statue of Virgin Mary there. Lastly, you should visit the breathtaking view of Kawasan Falls because what awaits you there is the turquoise blue water where you can swim around and relax. It is one of the most famous waterfalls in the Philippines.

On the other hand, Cebu is also known for serving good and compelling food. They are famous for their Lechon Cebu, chicharon, puso, chorizo and seafoods. Besides that, you should try the barbecues that are sold in the streets too. I usually buy street food when I stay there because it is not just affordable, the quality is also good. Furthermore, you should stop by to buy otap, dried mangoes and banana chips because it is a must as souvenirs for your friends and families. Most importantly, the thing that made me the happiest always is when it is the time for the fiesta! It is something that I won’t be able to experience in other places, particularly in Metro Manila, the place where I live.

During the Sinulog Festival, we celebrate our hearts out and no one gets left behind. A lot of people would invite you to come to their place and celebrate. There is a lot of food, event and bonding together that never fails to give me happy moments. The salu – salo of the people would surely be remarkable for you too Aside from that, of course, Lechon Cebu is always present! Nothing compares to the crispy, juicy and savory delight of the lechon there. It is in fact one of the best I’ve ever tasted in my life. Lastly, you would also be inspired and amazed about how strong their faith to Sto Nino is. This is the reason why they celebrate the Sinulog Festival during January.

Therefore, if you want to travel and feel at peace, you should go to Cebu. Without a doubt, this is the perfect place for you. Enthusiastic and heart – warming people, mouth – watering foods and fascinating places will be surely waiting for you.
