Sarawak-my hometown and I am proud of it. The scenery, languages, historical places, interesting places and various foods are very special to me as the resident of The Earth of Hornbill. I am proud to promote my hometown to everybody as Sarawak has its own attraction. I will be gladsome to recommend the most popular places in Sarawak which is also known as the main attraction such as Sarawak Cultural Village, Jong’s Crocodile Farm, Sarawak tribe languages and the most known well foods among the visitors likes Laksa Sarawak, Kek Lapis Sarawak and the most unique one is Manok Pansoh.
As the one of the attraction in my hometown, Sarawak Cultural Village which is also known as “Museum of Life” will be always welcomes the visitors to come and visit the village as the same as Jong’s Crocodile Farm.
At the Sarawak Cultural Village, they can see the replicas of buildings that represent every major indigenous tribe in Sarawak.
In addition to make it more interesting, visitors also can hold their wedding at the Sarawak Cultural Village in the style of traditional that they are like too.
Furthermore, Sarawak Cultural Village is also the venue of the World Harvest Festival and the Rainforest World Music Festival, which are an internationally renowned festival. As the same as the Sarawak Cultural Village, Jong’s Crocodile Farm also welcomes the visitors. I often heard the rumour said that Sarawak is a country that has many crocodile due to the incident of crocodile attacks that usually happens to Sarawak local residents.
Well, maybe it is true about the numbers of the crocodile in Sarawak as the Jong’s Crocodile Farm is the biggest rearing, breading and rehabilitation in Malaysia.
Its places more than 1000 crocodiles with different sizes, types and just for information, those crocodiles are also come from different areas. The visitors will be presented by the crocodile feeding show that will hold in the afternoon and in the evening. They also can get their memorable materials such as crocodile meat that had been dried from Jong’s Crocodile Farm which they can’t find easily somewhere. Besides of these two interesting places, Sarawak languages are also the main of the uniqueness that has been found in my hometown. It is happen because of different tribe from different places will have their own anguage.
For instead, Iban’s language and Melanau’s language. In Iban’s language, if someone said “I want to eat” in their own language it will become like this “Aku kak makai. ” But, in Melanau’s language it will become totally different. It will become like this-“Ko bak keman. ” However, Melanau’s languages are little bit confusing because their language is depends on their places. For example Melanau in Sibu, they used the word “Di bei hal” for “There is no problem” but Melanau in Mukah, they will used the word “Mei bei hal”. It sound different but has the same meaning. Isn’t it a little bit confusing?
Well, it might confuse if we can’t understand their language but it will be fun and interesting if we can understand it. I believe that as a visitor, someone will be proud of themselves because they can speak in foreign language that they are not used for it in their daily life. In addition, visitors actually can get the big benefits from this situation. They can learn Sarawak tribe languages as much as they love too. Well, sounds like knowledge are everywhere and it is true. The uniqueness of the foods that can be found in Sarawak is different from somewhere else such as Laksa Sarawak, Kek Lapis Sarawak and Manok Pansoh.
It is unique because of the ingredients and the way it has been prepared. Even though we can find Laksa Sarawak and Kek Lapis Sarawak in others places but I believe it will never be the same as made from Sarawak. As we know the original recipe is come from Sarawak so it is not a wonder anymore why the made from Sarawak is much tastier than somewhere else. For exampleMeanwhile, I believe Manok Pansoh is the most original food of Sarawak that you can’t find at others places. It is because it is originally made by the local residents. In addition, Manok Pansoh is prepared in a very unique way.
They used bamboo and put the chicken inside it and then cook it just the same like Lemang. Isn’t it unique? Its taste is also delicious too. It is not take a long time to been prepared. Where can you find it except Sarawak the Earth of Hornbill? In the nutshell, I believe my hometown is worth visiting enough as the attractions, interested places and the uniqueness that we can find out here such as Sarawak Cultural Village, Jong’s Crocodile Farm and the foods that made from Sarawak which are very special and of course very delicious too.
I am proud to promoting my hometown because I am very sure that everyone should come to Sarawak and experience by themselves. Besides, I am sure that Sarawak will always be on their mind until the rest. It will be their most precious memory that they will never want to forget about. So, what are you waiting for? Come and visit Sarawak for the amazing experiences that you can’t get on somewhere else.
Malaysia has been visited by thousands of tourist from all over the world every year. But tourism in Malaysia can be further developed by promoting many aspects that the country has. Malaysia is a land that has been bestowed with greenery, mountains, beaches and rivers. Its natural landscape itself is a great attraction for foreigners. The sandy beaches in Penang Island, Port Dickson and Morib are holiday retreats for Westerners who are deprived of the sun and sea due to the cold weather in their countries. The wind whispering through the tall shady casuarinas and lapping sea waves are ideal places for visitors in search of peace and tranquility.
There are natural places which have special attractions for the foreigners to look and enjoy. The Kuala Selangor fireflies is a must to visit. The fireflies in Kuala Selangor are the largest colony in the world. Visitors have to take a boat ride in late evenings to see the fireflies, which lit up the trees in the dark. The nocturnal tours in the boats would be a unique experience for any traveler. This unique attraction can be highlighted in the brochures and the websites in the Internet. World- class theme parks like the Sunway Lagoon and Mines Wonderland must be highlighted also. The Sunway Lagoon, which was once a tin mine, has been transformed into a recreational park.
There are also five-star hotels in these places where visitors could enjoy their stay there. Kuala Lumpur the capital city is the ideal place to shop because it promises variety , value and convenience all in one place. Malaysian items like pewter and batik can be found at various places for different levels of budget. Names of places and malls so that the visitors have and idea where to go for shopping for certain items. All these aspects can be highlighted in the media especially in the Internet so that visitors can get the right information about Malaysia and would want to visit our country.
In comparison to other sectors of Industry, the tourism industry is well developed at Malaysia. This industry effects in a positive manner in giving a boost to the Malaysian economy with a rapid increase in the earnings, of foreign exchange along with good employment opportunities. In the year 2005, it was declared by the World Tourism Organization that Malaysia stands 14th in the overall ranking based on the international tourism arrivals.
Among the 53 different common wealth countries Malaysia ranks 3rd next to Britain and Canada. A wide increase in the foreign revenue generation was noticed in the year 2006 and the tourism sector generated about US$18. 1 billion through export revenue, which is almost 10% of the total foreign revenue earned by the country. Different efforts were taken by the government of Malaysia, to make the country more developed and a prime place of attraction for tourist from all parts of Asia and world.
You can notice a huge infrastructure and physical development was given due priority by the government of Malaysia along with the established projects of tourism with good attraction of tourism for the prospect of the country (Jamil. J, 2007). After the independence of Malaysia, the Malaysian people put their concern on the western influences on the tourism development (Din, 1982). The tourism development continued its journey with a vision for the national development, the civilization of Islam, with a great progress in the parallel with the teachings of Islam (Islam,H, 2005).
Out of the world’s 57 Muslim countries, only four countries manage to earn 17. 5 million tourists in 2004. The countries are Malaysia, Morocco, Egypt, and Turkey (Islamic countries Seek Bigger Piece of Tourism Pie, 2005). The tourism policy and its implementation in Malaysia As per as the overall development of Malaysia is concerned, NEP directly influenced it from 1971 to 1990. In later part NEP was replaced with the introduction of New Development Policy from the period 1991 to 2000. Several objectives of NEP were included in New Development Policy.
Like various other industries and sectors of the economy of Malaysia, focus was also given towards the development of tourism industry by NEP. Depending on that, a federal form of constitution was adopted by Malaysia. Under this constitution come all the thirteen states and all the federal territory. The central government of Malaysia designed the policies keeping in mind a linear path with regard to their implementation on the state level. But in real terms it seemed like quite difficult to centralize the flow of the process, particularly due to the involvement of each state with own legislative style.
Many of the state participated in the argument to oppose some of the policies of tourism as they feel that goes against the local norms of the state. Institutionalization of the industry of tourism in Malaysia The year 1995, marked the beginning of tourism as a new force of the economic sector of Malaysia with the setting up of the Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Trade of Malaysia. It clearly justifies that the industry of tourism is a late arriver in comparison to any other sector of industries in Malaysia (Tan, W. H 1991).
The involvement of Malaysian government was in a slow pace towards the tourism industry, while most of the developing countries concentrate on the tourism industry to follow the path of growth in the economic front. A sudden fall in the commodity prices inspired Malaysian government to give new life to the industry of tourism, in order to sustain the growth of economy principle objectives of tourism, was included in the tourism master plan of Malaysia, which was the country’s 2nd Malaysia Plan 1971-75, marked the new beginning of the tourism sector as the contributing force for the economic development of Malaysia.
In the year 1972, a dedicated agency was established known as the Tourist Development Corporation by the parliament of Malaysia. It is established with the mission to promote tourism of Malaysia. A new phase is marked with the involvement of the government in this sector. An international bench mark was achieved by the tourism industry in the year 1972 when Malaysia hosted the Pacific Area Travel Association (PATA) 21st conference, which resulted in the gradual increase in the number and percentage of the international tourist into Malaysia.
A rapid increase is noticed also in the number of inbound tourist with the availability of the facility of regional airports and that too of an international standard. In the year 1986, the PATA 35th conference was held at Malaysia, which enhances the tourist attraction of the place in the subsequent years with the highlighting of the facilities and services offered to the delegates (Tan,W. H, 1991). A grand event was organized in the year 1990 on tourism .
The event was named the Visit Malaysia Year 1990. In that very year a record visit of almost seven million international tourists was marked, which is a growth of almost 53. 6% from the previous year. The grand success of this event gave a targeted increase of almost 10% for each coming year. The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism was introduced in the year 1992 to coordinate and plan the tourism activities of the country with close monitoring of the activities too.
The inceptions of the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB), in the same year establish Malaysian tourism as one of the major force of the economic sectors of Malaysia. Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board took the initiative to promote Malaysia as the world tourism destination in order to enhance the socio economic well being of the country of Malaysia. On the other hand the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism were entrusted with the responsibility to formulate the policies for tourism industry of the country.
MTPB get the advantage to promote Malaysia on the international level with about 29 offices on worldwide basis. The domestic destinations were marked and then it was matched with various selected international markets. Keeping this concept of promotion eight destinations were marked with another four additional sites in each subsequent year. The destinations of Sabah, Langkawi, and Sarawak were promoted in high level especially to the European market, especially due to the appeal of the nature along with the sand and beaches.
The development authority of the Langkawi targets the tourist from the Western Europe, area as the tourist from there do possess the capacity to avail and enjoy the facilities of the four to five star hotels located on the Langkawi Island. The above discussion on the Institutionalization of the industry of tourism in Malaysia clearly depicts how the development of the tourism industry take place in different stages to establish the country as one of the attractive destination for the tourist specially on the international level.
