Animal cruelty is an issue existing for several years already. It can come in different forms such as animal skinning, animal testing, and poaching. Such acts are done for business purposes, monetary value, and sports. Rhinos, elephants, and white tigers are a few animals that are put in danger due to the undisciplined acts and abuse on resources of the people. There are various laws implemented by the government to protect and maintain the species of animals and their habitats, but continuous abuse of resources leads to the brink of extinction of some animal species.

Climate change also affects the status of habitats of the animals, and man-made activities are the cause of it. Animals are being affected, yet people are turning a blind eye on it. As the temperature increases, the possibility of developing wildfires is most likely, which can lead to the death of them.

Animal skinning has many cases especially in business, and in collections. Based from the website “Last Chance for Animals”, more than 1 billion rabbits and 50 million other animals like foxes and other animals are raised on fur farms or trapped in the wild and killed for their skins every year.

As an effect, many animals are extinct because of these cases. In terms of fashion, it is said that between the year 2008 and 2017, the European Union imported more than 10 Million of skin products that came from snakes, lizard, and crocodiles. Fortunately, there are laws that protects the reptiles from abuse. It is said that reptile animals are covered by Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES).

Other cases of animal skinning are mostly in Asia. Mostly dogs are brutally slaughtered in alleyways, and domestic cats are packed and hanged from the tops of those same cages and they are employing children to execute the cats, and left them until they are suffocate, and turn their skins into wallets and other luxury items like golf gloves.

Poaching is illegal hunting of animals in the wildlife. Many species of animals are put to threat of extinction due to it. The commonly poached animals are rhinos, elephants, and tigers. In South Africa, where 80% of rhinos live, poaching of the said animal is high “with more than 1,000 rhinos killed each year between 2013 and 2017.” (SaveTheRhino, n.d.) Poaching is also popular in China, India, and Brazil, in which the materials from poached animals are either sold at the black market for money or sometimes eaten for food. As the economy of China increases, along with it comes the increase also in poaching of horns of rhinos in Africa, which is claimed to have medicinal effects. The impact of those acts have concerned many, mostly the local communities and the tourism industry. Those who rely on wildlife to attract tourists are heavily affected. Even though there are anti-poaching personnel patrolling in the wildlife, poachers still manage to get away with arrest by observing the patterns of patrol. Comprehensive Anti-Poaching tool with Temporal and observation Uncertainty Reasoning (CAPTURE) is an anti-poaching tool that will help “(1) anticipate where the poachers are likely to poach and (2) plan effective patrols.” (Fang et al., 2017) Studies are being made on how it will be effective for catching.

Some scientists still use animals on experimenting that is not protected by the law in laboratory research, which is an animal violation. The tests performed usually causes severe damage to the animals which might lead to death. People are the only ones who benefit with the successful results and multiple tests which harms another living organism on Earth, in where there should be equal opportunity of living. Animal testing is considered inhumane and brutal. It is irreplaceable since there is no other alternatives on it. Animal testing had been regulated in the United States of America by the federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA). Given its brutality and ferocious method, it is still very crucial for human kind to identify the variable's capability. It grants us to understand the behaviours or biological system under study. According to AWA, animals being used in animal testing were not protected by them. Due to their absence at these scenarios, animal abuse may occur and probably mistreat those animal subjects. It was stated by the environmental protection agency that animal testing will be stop by the end of 2035. They are planning to reduce the funds for animal testing for about 30 percent of it. Due to these circumstances, it is expected that animal testing will be eliminated for good before the year 2035.

The laws implemented are not enough to stop these things from happening. People who never stop abusing the Earth’s natural resources does not know the impact of their acts on the environment and wildlife species. Using of animals for testing shall be observed and must only be used for necessary experiments. The result of it varies, and sometimes the effect is different on humans, so nothing can be concluded immediately. Fashion items such as bags, clothes, and shoes can be made out of other materials rather than the animal’s fur and skin. Increase of demand on these kind of things affects the rate of animal skinning, making it higher than usual. The rarity of an item is also to be considered, as it is deemed as limited edition for the fashion business. It is sold for a high price, and its value increases as years pass by. Continuous killing of animals for monetary value should be stopped as it highly affects the species in wildlife today. The worst is that animals are not becoming extinct due to the loss of habitat, it’s from the continuous illegal hunting. Anti-poaching patrols shall be improved to lessen the rate of poaching in countries where it is relevant.
