One such hero was Prithvi Narayan Shah whose grit and vision was the main reason that united Nepal. He was the first ruler of Shah Dynasty to rule over the unified kingdom of Nepal.
In history he is portrayed as a ruthless warrior and an able administrator. During his reign he subjugated other principalities, annexed the territories and found Shah Dynasty. He was the ruler that opposed the approachment of the British East India Company to trade with them. Prithvi Narayan Shah transformed Gorkhali into Nepali nationalism and made it immensely more potent and effective in the political aspect of the Nepal with his valiant deeds.

His greatest achievement in the political lens could be showcased through his legacy of conquest and how this attributes made people to hail him as a unifier/a nation builder. Secondly he was a far sighted politician whose deeds and words are still a lodestar guide for the people of Nepal. His valiant deeds for his nation are the biggest contribution that showcased how his attribution changed the political aspect in Nepal.

He spent most part of his life in war, unifying the small principalities and gave a new born unified Nepal. He commanded the unification by himself and boosted the morale of his soldier where Nepal became a host of battles. The military conquests and annexations of Prithvi Narayan faced much stiff opposition and failed many times but he was never disheartened at his defeat rather he embraced and learned from it. Moreover, in order to make his unification campaign successful and to keep his state safe in absence of him he made a great effort to have a good relation with different states through treaties and diplomatic. According to Ratna (2000), Prithvi Naryan Shah established friendship with Hari Shah, the king of jarkot of the Baise states and he also gave his daughter vilashkumari in marriage to Rana Bhim Shah the king of Salyan and through this friendship he successfully conquered Nuwakot, Lamjung and some other states. After many attempts he was able to successfully conquest the Nepal mandala of Kathmandu and declared the name Nepal for the entire Gorkha Empire in mid eighteen century. He understood how the people of Nepal mandala lived and that was one of the biggest reasons that paved his path towards the victory. Once Kathmandu fell into his hands, it did not take him long to take possession of Patan and Bhadgaon. Furthermore a ruthless warrior and a conqueror where he conquest successfully and extended up to Mechi river in the east, Gandaki in the west, Tibet to the north and Bihar of India. Consequently, images of Prithvi Narayan Shah play a key role in ideological and political debates over the Nepali past and future. He was a visionary king and hailed by the people as a nation builder and still people practice Prithvijayanti that is a national Unity Day to mark the commemoration of his attribution.
Prithivi Narayan Shah was an expert and far sighted Politician as he still upholds high place of honour due to his anticipated advice and words that guides and paves the path for current Nepal. Prithivi Narayan Shah is the hero and for his prowess the Nepalese nation owes its existence. Prithvi Narayan Shah had styled his realm as a pure Hindu land, in opposition to India. India had been engulfed polluted by both Muslim and British rule. Prithvi Narayan Shah had stressed and given advice on nationalist economy that holds meaning in current global economy. He said, “Do not let the foreign merchants come up from the south. If they come to our country, they will leave the people poor. Forbid the use of clothes made in foreign nation. Show samples and begin making our own clothing.Send our herbs to foreign nation and bring back money” This showcase his talent of farsighted and patriotism towards his nation that changed the phase of politics in current Nepal. According to Subedi (2020), states that Prithivi Narayan Shah is still a lodestar to guide Nepal in the realms of politics, economy and foreign affairs in current 21st year. His vision of statecraft is well reflected in his divine counsels. This is the gem of ideas, offering insights to protect the country from colonial invasion create independent economy and achieve prosperity and peace for the people. It is filled with nationalistic foresight, democratic elements and intellectual perception. On other hand even during his reign one can trace another far-sighted economic approach where he suggested opening trade route with Tibet and wanted to stop doing trade from entry point in Sikkim and western part of the country. According to Khafle, as he fought many battles, he understood why integrating the nearby kingdom could be beneficial against the rising British in region. He realized from the beginning that the diversity of the Nepal could be exploited by British who would try to engulf and divide his Kingdom. This shows that he was a farsighted politician who could anticipate the pros and cons through his forecast and experienced in battles fields. He the present Kingdom of Nepal in it stands as a lasting tribute to the foresight and vision of the Gorkhali rulers.

He upholds a great place of honour in history for starting the campaign of unification in Nepal. Moreover, his vision and far sighted stopped the foreign interference in his territory. Where he sealed his territory and remained friendly with the British but rather kept a safe distance from the British. He also introduced and carved good governance and several social reforms. Pradhan (2010), states that the treaty signed between Nepal and Tibet significantly supported the financial state of the Nepal and not only that it brought peace and strengthen its friendship. The administration expenses greatly reduced after he declared Kathmandu as a capital city. During his time, the unity and the nationality seemed strengthened due to the co-operation, co-ordination and help among people. It was his urge that evoked a sense of unity and patriotism towards the nation. Feeling of unity and togetherness developed and bravely exhibited during his rule as it is not the stone and wall that makes the nation the strong but the people residing in it. His grit and courage are the matter of high appreciation. His words and policy is still the considerable guide for the current Nepal to sustain in current circumstances. According to Bipin (2015), Prithivi Narayan Shah adopted a closed door policy in Nepal geopolitical context that were the guideline for the future centuries in terms of foreign policy. These were his noble deed that contributed for the benefit of both past and future.
Prithivi Narayan Shah was a ruthless warlord where Nepal became a battle of host but still it was him who settled unrest in Nepal. He crippled the mission of his rebellion with his zeal and enthusiasm. In history he is portrayed as an idle leader that changed the political aspect of the Nepal through his attribution. The history unfurls his deed of heroism that upholds high place of honour. He was a conqueror that had the potential to conquest the whole Nepal under his rule. Throughout his journey he faced many oppressive opponents and failed but his step never faltered to rise again to fulfill his dream. He sacrificed and contributed a lot to unite the scattered kingdom and curbed the impediment in both past and future. He was a patriotic leader toward the nation and people to provide peace and prosperity for his citizen. He maintained a good relation with Tibet and paves the path towards trade that would be beneficial for their economic transition. On other hand he was a clever ruler where he maintained a peaceful relation with British but never let them to use Nepal as a pawn.Moreover, it was a step towards the milestone in Nepal’s historiography. He died at the young age of fifty five if not he had the potential to conquer the world under his rule. This amply shows that his vision of statecraft is embedded with the offering insight and intellectual perception for the benefit of people and Nation. He was a game changer for the politics of Nepal that changed it aspect.
