Your brain has huge hidden potential and is the best source of energy. It is the most powerful organ in the human body. Many coordinated chemical reactions take place in this complex organ.
This extensive capability of man's mind can be traced back to creation where man became an immortal soul in a physical body. This unique spiritual component enables man to have a superior thinking capability than all animals. It is a fact that there are as many minds as there are many diverse people, but a lot these minds are potent fires waiting to be reignited.
Research findings show that the capacity of the average person's brain vastly outweighs how it is used.
Andrew Carnegie concurs with this fact when he says:-
"An average person puts only 25% of their brain energy and ability into their work. The world takes its hat off to those who put more than 50% capacity, and stands on its head to those few who devote 100% of their energy".
It is an open secret that not many people are prepared to take that bold step of positively using their immense brainpower.
Positive thinking is one of the hardest work for any human being. Probably this is one of the reasons why only a few people are willing to unleash their thinking potential.
We slowly lose our brainpower if it is not adequately used and utilised. To be the best, we must embrace positive change in our thinking. Change takes us to new territories, and many people fear the unknown.
When we take that bold step of changing our mindset, we radically improve our performance.
If you do not want to lose brainpower, then you use it. Oliver Wendell Holmes supports this fact when he says "Man's mind once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimension."
The brain needs constant practice throughout its life. The more you take it through challenging tasks, the more you increase your brainpower and intelligence. Being curious and questioning everything, forces your mind to innovate and create new ideas. Another way to improve the structure of your brain is to try new things.
Man is made or unmade by his thoughts- you are a product of your thoughts. As a man thinks, so he is. Who you are today and how you will be in future depends on how well you regularly exercise your brain. All those who want to remain young and relevant must engage their minds in creative thinking.
Your body is a servant of your mind-it obeys everything your mind instructs. When your mind is attentive, your body is also alert. When you let your mind stagnate, definitely you will have a miserable life. Show me a creative thinker and I will show you a person of excellence.
The greatest tragedy in life is to allow your thinking potential to remain dormant until you die. God gave you that talent to use it wisely-utilise it to be a be a person of substance.
For your brain to function at optimum levels its entire life, you must get fully involved activities that stimulate creative thinking and problem-solving.
"Train your mind to think positively. Try to have an optimistic outlook in the midst of a negative situation." Jonathan Brown
When a farmer wants a bountiful harvest, he must prepare the land, plant the best seeds, take care of the plants and pray for the rains. Your mind, like a garden, requires elaborate preparation and planting with the right thoughts. Brain full of negative thoughts is like a garden full of weeds. Such a garden is not productive, and there is hinderance of crops' growth.
Negative thoughts are the greatest enemies of your growth. It is therefore wise to occupy our minds every day with positive thoughts because the benefits are great. Nothing great in life comes easy.
Research shows that positive thinking speeds up the creation of new nerve cells called neurons that enhance brain capacity. Stress and anxiety is drastically reduced when we engage in positive thinking.
Feeding our brain with positivity enables us to face life more creatively. Think positively and you will enjoy positive energy and happiness. Healthy mindset leads to a healthy lifestyle and enjoyable life.
According to Doctor Caroline Leaf, an average person has over 30,000 thoughts per day that affect the individual physically and emotionally.
Robert Schuller warns us "Negative thinking spreads like a plague through all levels of society, and it is not easy to protect oneself from the infection of negative thinking which is spread by word of mouth, by conversions with friends as well as strangers and news reports. It spreads quickly because once an organism, a business, life or country is infected with negative thinking, the infections attack the mind, the heart and the soul like termites that secretly gnaw at the emotional support system."
Studies show that 75% to 95% of the illnesses that plague us today are a direct result of uncontrolled thought process. Negative thoughts create negative feelings, bad moods, and behaviour that eventually lead to failure, frustrations, and disappointments.
Controlling your thought process is one of the best ways of detoxifying your brain. It requires self-discipline and disciplining your mind is one of the most crucial steps of becoming a winner- if it is worth the price, then it is worth the fight. You must always guard against negative thinking and avoid negative people that drain your energy.
"There are times in our lives when we have to realize our past is precisely what it is, and we cannot change it. But we can change the story we tell ourselves about it, and by doing that, we can change the future."
The way we were socialized and nurtured have a significant impact on the way we think and behave. Many people were brainwashed to believe that they will grow to be failures and through this conditioning, they have eventually failed.
A story by an unknown author clearly illustrate the long-term effects of conditioned thinking. "A man was passing some adult elephants in one of the Asian countries. Suddenly, he stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held only by thin ropes tied to their front legs. No chains or cages were required to hold these huge animals. It was evident that the elephants could, at any time, break away from their weak bonds but for no apparent reason, they did not.
He saw a trainer nearby and asked him why the animals just stood there and made no attempt to break away. "Well," the person said casually, "when these animals were very young and small, we used the same size of rope to tie them and the ropes by then were strong enough to hold them.
As they grew up, the elephants were conditioned to believe they cannot break the ropes. Even now when they are grown-ups, they do still think that they will never break free from these ropes". The man was amazed. These animals will never at any time break free from their bonds because they believed in their mind that the ropes were very solid and strong.
Like these conditioned elephants, you could be going through life thinking that you cannot move out of your past conditioning. Your background or past experiences could have clouded your vision, and the future currently looks unwelcoming and unlikely to improve.
You must stop making excuses, and blaming others for your past failures and despair. Let go of the past because you have the power to have a positive and enjoyable future. Stop being an imprisoned by your past and be your own architect of achieving what you have all along been made to believe was impossible.
You are God's creation perfectly made for His use. He orders your steps and He is still in control. He likes working with broken vessels and He is a God of a second chance. He guarantees a better tomorrow, and He can make your scars into stars. His final words to you are 'Yes' and 'Amen'!
Our upbringing should not hinder us from unlocking our potential
"Each day of our lives, we make deposits in the memory banks of our children"
Many people are living miserable lives because of the way they were brought up. They are a product of their bad upbringing. If you are in this group and currently feel inadequate, you hold the key for a better life.
The only thing required from you is to rediscover your potential, accept you need to change and then move out of your comfort zone.
At development stage, every child mind is like a sponge ready to absorb everything whether positive or negative. Parents have a responsibility of sieving what gets into the child's mind. Each parent has God-given the job of being the master builder who lays children's foundation.
Children with shaky foundations grow to be unstable and are not able to withstand the storms of life. Children who have a strong foundation end up being stable and their future are guaranteed.
When you preach water and drink wine, children will not pay attention to your instructions. The young ones learn a lot from your actions, and they are excellent in imitators.
In his outstanding book, be inspired before you expire, Pepe Minambo says that our children are our greatest joy and assets. Every parent is accountable for making sure his children are aware of the immense opportunities the future holds. He must instil in every child a sense of urgency, self-respect, discipline, and confidence.
Each parent has a God-given responsibility to plant the child's virgin brain with values and a moral compass. These values and morals comfortably steer the child through challenges of life as he grows up.
Each parent must be a friend and a good role model to his/her children. The parent must have integrity, is hardworking and have values that can be emulated by the young ones.
It is not the parents' responsibility to create a road for their children but to provide a roadmap that will guide them comfortably through the rough paths of life. The parent should not think for the child, but He should lovingly train the child to think.
"By discovering how our minds work, we can improve our learning power and unlock our true potential."
There lived a man who was the most celebrated escape artist in the world. He could get out of straitjackets, chains, and locked boxes of all kinds. He made an offer that he could escape from any locked jail in 60 minutes provided the people present would turn their backs while he worked on the lock.
In a certain country, many had heard of the great escape artist. They believed they had a jail from which he could not escape from. The escape artist accepted the challenge to escape from this jail.
While inside the jail, he tried to trip the lock with a long flexible steel rod. Sixty minutes passed while keeping his ear close to the lock and trying to hear it trip. He continued for another two hours until he became exhausted.
In his fatigue, he leaned against the door, and it fell open. Houdini all along believed the cell door was locked, but it was never locked. It was only locked in his mind!
How many situations and opportunities are only locked in our minds? We need to unlock our minds to enjoy our journey through life. We must not walk by sight but by faith. When we master our thoughts, we overcome our limitations.
We must realize that our thoughts can easily be under our control. The power of positive thinking will forever change our lives and propel us to a bright future - the kind of future we have been eagerly yearning for.
