Despite the negativity bestowed upon him as a result of recent events, Tiger Woods is among the most successful professional golfers of all time. He has re-written the record books with major successes, such as claiming upwards of 93 tournament victories with 71 of them on the PGA tour. He is a role model, an inspiration, and a generous person. Woods has donated millions of dollars to charitable causes and has visited countless needy children across the country. Whatever his alleged mistakes may be, they do not shoot down his professional accomplishments.

At 11 months, Woods was already able to putt and when he was two years old he could chip shots, tee off and putt. By the age of 12, he already had over 200 trophies. As a junior golfer, Woods set a new world record by winning six junior world Amateur titles.

When he was in his first year of college, Woods was invited to play in the Masters tournament which he placed 41st in. This was one of his first major achievements.

His first major came as he became the youngest golfer to win the masters in 1997. He won it again in 2001, 2002, 2005, and 2008. Woods has won two PGA Championships, one in 1999 and the other in 2000. Also, he has two U.S. Open Championships to his name, winning in 2000 and 2002. Outside the United States, he claimed first place in the British Open Championship in 2000, 2005, and 2006.

Every year it appears he’s a winner somewhere.

Although his goal is to become the greatest golfer to ever play the game, Woods believes that being a good role model to others is even more important than his golf. He wants to influence people, especially kids in a positive way. In an interview with Tiger Woods, Melissa Stark said “Working with younger kids, why is that so important to you?” and he replied, “It’s more gratifying than anything else. It’s more gratifying than winning golf tournaments. I love winning golf tournaments for me, for my own personal satisfaction. But I tell you what; the satisfaction you get from helping others far outweighs that.” This exemplifies the type of person Woods is.

Destined to empower young people to reach their highest potential, Tiger Woods and his father founded a charity called “The Tiger Woods Foundation” in 1996. The Foundation supports programs that encourage kids to care about and share with others, engage the community in helping kids pursue their goals, encourage youth to dream big dreams, and acquaint kids with the power they possess to improve their own circumstances.

Woods is an inspiration to thousands of people and all inspirational figures must get their inspiration from somewhere and his came from his parents and Nelson Mandela. His father saw him through every step of his golf development. He would sit at his bedside each night, telling him how mow much potential and ability he possessed. He also told him how well he was going to be in life and in the game. His mother would get up early and bring Tiger to golf tournaments all around California. Woods says that both his parents were huge influences in the development of his golf. It seems they must have also inspired him to help other kids as well. Tiger Woods has made golfing history but to thousands of children who will remember not the golfer but the companion, who is their inspiration in the broadest sense of the word.
