Counting job satisfaction among concepts such as customer satisfaction, profitability, and productivity, which form success indicators in organizations, shows how important job satisfaction is for the organizations.
Job satisfaction focuses on employee attitude towards his/her job. Job satisfaction is related to what you actually get as the reward and what you expect to get. According to Hoppock's definition, job satisfaction is an emotional response that an employee individually gives to his work. According to Price, job satisfaction is a positive affirmation about the membership of an organization.
There is a lot of definition about job satisfaction, but in general, job satisfaction is the general attitude of one towards to work. If the overall attitude towards the work of the person is positive, then there is job satisfaction. If the attitudes from the work experience are negative, there is no job satisfaction and the person is not satisfied with the work. This can be several ways and mainly there are five type of job satisfaction; Pay satisfaction, Promotion satisfaction, Supervision Satisfaction, Coworker Satisfaction and Satisfaction with work itself.
These five types of job satisfaction will be briefly explained.
Pay Satisfaction: Undoubtedly one of the most important factors in the job satisfaction of the employees is the fee. But it is not possible to satisfied employees with salary only. They may have a high salary but it does not mean that employees will show high-efficiency or they are committed to the organization. There are also those who get a high wage and are not satisfied.
For this reason, wages should be evaluated together with other satisfaction factors.
Promotion Satisfaction: If the employees fulfill their duties with success, they want to be recognized and they expect that their success is appreciated. The employees who take a positive feedbacks and prizes for their continued successes and if they appreciated from their boss, job satisfaction will increase. The point is, these promotions should be frequent, fair and based on ability.
In contrast to payments, some workers may not want continual promotions because promotions bring more duty and expanded work hours.
Supervision Satisfaction: Feelings about their boss, Communication channels between managers and employee should always be available (open door policy, do not close your door to your employee as a manager). Managers should be polite, helpful, good communicator, competent.
Coworker Satisfaction: Shortly, employees feel about their fellow employees. Most of the employees are looking for supportive, enjoyable, reasonable coworker. For this reason, job satisfaction, which finds friends and supportive colleagues in the workplace, is increasing. Employees can ask yourself some questions like ''can they help me to do my job or do I enjoy being around them?'' Coworker satisfaction is the crucial topic because employees spend as much time with their colleagues as they spend with their families.
Satisfaction with work itself: Employees feelings about their actual work tasks. It is one of the most important factors in the job satisfaction and focuses on what employees actually do. Are they job interesting, challenging, respected and their skills is matching with the job requirements or not.
