Most street kids have been raised in a violent household which pressures the children to flea. (Child Abuse/Neglect, Paragraph 2). Homeless kids do not have the privileges that other children have; since they don't have a permanent address, they miss out on things that might benefit them such as attending school, finding a job, secure food and shelter, and in some cases, survival. (Richardson, page 79). A growing problem is prostitution is teen girls which are now the most common way they seem to use in order to make money and keep them alive.

The government of Canada is looking deeply in the causes of the increase in the population of street kids. The government has conducted studies on street kids to see what happens during the period of their birth and their deaths which usually is a violent death. (Suicide, drugs killing street kids: study). Different politicians and leaders in the country try to take action and help reduce the number of homeless kids and homelessness in the country. "This left an indelible impact on Mayor Doug Faulkner, who became a strong advocate of more affordable housing, and on the community which had seen itself as a boomtown, immune from such urban tragedies."(Layton, Page 28).

Doug Faulkner was the mayor of Wood Buffalo, Alberta in 1997, who took a stand in his town to decrease the number of homeless children and provide affordable housing and jobs for youth that would help them gain new skills and rely on themselves. Canadian governments should be working on how to stop the increase of street kids' population by eliminating the problem before it starts. It is believed in various studies that the major reason to why children abandon their homes is being raised in a constantly negative environment with a lot of pressure and non stop stress. Children rose in a more loving home show that they will have more success if future career and family life. (Webber, Page 19). More programs such as the Enhanced Surveillance of Canadian Street Youth (E-SYS) have been provided by the government which helped keep an eye of the progress of some troubled teens in the street. (Public Health Agency of Canada, ix) In Conclusion, aside from the many issues that the Canadian government faces, street kids are just another problem that needs to be dealt with and perhaps eliminated. This issue affects many people psychologically, mentally and physically and mostly affects the teens themselves. It ties in with other issues and mostly affects everyone in a negative way.

The government tries to decrease the numbers of runaways and abandoned kids by providing alternate places for these kids to grow up in. it is believed that to end a problem, one should see where it originated and change it from the beginning in order to have more positive outcomes and that's what the government of Canada should be focusing on.
