There exist many benefits of homework to students than the harm. There have been debates on whether homework should be banned or not. Among the major reasons why homework should not be banned is that: One, it boost the interaction and thus the relationship between teachers and students Two, it helps in making students more responsible. Homework enhances the student-teacher relationship. “...such an ideal student teacher relationship may be a consequence of students having internalised what their teachers tell them about the usefulness of homework." (Clarke et al., 113)Through assignments, the teacher can evaluate the level of understanding of each student.
The teacher gets to know the strengths and weaknesses of each student and thus understands how to handle them individually.
The interaction is further enhanced through the student asking questions where they do not understand. Homework makes students more responsible through enhancing their skills.
“During homework completion, students engage in self-regulation by motivating themselves, inhibiting distractions, ..., setting goals, self-reflecting on their performance, and delaying gratification.” (Ramdass, Darshan, and Barry 1) When a learner is given the assignment to complete on their own, they try to come up with different ways to tackle it thus enhancing their creativity while testing their level of understanding of what was taught in class.
Other teachers encourage teamwork which gives each student the chance to contribute, boosting their ego.

However, there are suggestions that homework causes more harm than benefits to students. "The negative effects of homework are well known, and the positive effects imagined... homework does not reinforce learning nor improve academic results” (Kohn 7).
Those against it suggest that it is burdening the students and reduces has no impact on the performance of the student.
Homework has its advantages as well as disadvantages. Before a country or state decides to eliminate homework from its education system, it is important that they consider both sides. The final decision should aim at the best for the students.
