Why did you choose modelling?

Thanks for choosing to talk to us. Can you please introduce yourself, tell us who you are, what you do, tell us your age and everything else you would want us to know about you.

I am Judith Jemeli, aged 21 and a third year student at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology taking optometry and vision sciences and a bigtime aspiring model.

  • Why did you choose modelling and not something else?

I chose modelling, because it's where my passion lies and I have always wanted to be one since I was 12 and also it fulfils me.

  • What is this that inspired you into modelling?

The art of modelling is so fascinating,being on the runway, showcasing clothes, making turns,smiling, competing with other beauty peasants, its really fun.

  • Would you choose modelling over the job that you are studying for in University, and if yes, are there risks of such a decision?

Yes I would, I have always wanted to do modelling as a career.

The probable risks are things not working as I would want them to.

  • What exactly would be the worst outcome for you in this case?

This would probably be putting my profession on the line and then unfortunately my efforts in modelling fail to work.

  • For how long have you been modelling? When did you know you can model and how did you start?

I gave my first shot in 2014 and then I knew I could model when I was 17. I could watch fashion shows like Victoria's Secret and with such quality of models and I was inspired and wanted to become one too.

  • So far, how many events a have you been featured in, and which event made you feel like you were in the right career and why?

So far I have been featured in 2 events: Miss Baringo Rising Stars and Miss Campus.

The Miss Campus made me feel like I was in the right place, because I emerged second runners up alongside other 15 contestants.

  • Modelling, I understand is more of style/fashion. What are your best outfits? How can you describe your style?

I keep it simple and class, as long as something looks good on me and am comfortable with it, then am good to go.

  • I understand that modelling needs you to work out to maintain your body, do you really go to the gym or that's just your natural body?

This is my natural body and am grateful for that. Though I have never attended any in my entire life, it's crucial and I am planning to be going to the gym this year.

  • Who is your role model and why?

My bigtime role model is Lupita Nyong'o. Everything about her is inspiring, her confidence, her style and she is also a go getter.

  • Where do you see yourself in the next three years and what would you want to achieve by that time?

Three years from now I want to be Miss Kenya and a top model and represent our beautiful country Kenya internationally.

  • What are the challenges you have encountered as a model?

Modelling in Kenya is not well appreciated, many people think it's a waste of time and for lazy girls, but in real sense it's as demanding as any other career. Another challenge is finances, especially in pageant modelling, a lot of investment needs be done for good outcome.

  • You are a university student who is just working towards achieving your dreams, right now do you earn a living from modeling and if not, why choose to do it now?

No but I chose to do it because I believe where there is a will there is a way, so better things are popping.

  • What do you wish to tell the young models out there who have the dreams to become models?

I would only tell them to live their dreams and be disciplined, this industry requires a lot of discipline.
