This speech became a huge sensation to every American; his speech delivered change and hope to the United States of America.

In addition, Franklin D.Roosevelt was running to become the thirty-second president of the United States. To the eyes of many in the United States of America, he was ready to lead a whole country, because he was prepared educationally, mentally, he was not Herbert Hoover, the thirty-first president, and he was ready to fight for his nation.

The country wanted someone to deliver them from the crisis and the depression that he or she were facing. With that in mind, during 1933, the Great Depression left a lasting negative impact on the nation. It all started on October 24, 1929, when investors sold sixteen million stocks because they lost hope in the American economy. Six days, The Great Depression officially began, and it lasted for about a decade; throughout those years, this was an economic depression that had a huge impact on the world.

Leading many countries such as the United States into an enormous economic crisis which took a very long to recover from.

While affecting the whole world. this made leaders run for office that would change history forever. Around the world, many leaders needed massive alterations; in order to take their countries out of this mess. For example, during this time, Adolf Hitler was in great power leading his country in a direction he thought was right. Furthermore, it made the world become a place of uncertainty. Everybody around the world had some sort of fear. They did not know what was coming next, or if they were going to make it to the next day. All these new changes caused everyone to panic, and they needed a source of hope in order to survive.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt was one of those leaders that wanted his country to succeed, and take this challenge as an obstacle to their accomplishment. That is why Roosevelt utilized the topic of fear in his speech. Roosevelt exclaims, “So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needs the effort to convert retreat into advance” (Roosevelt, The First Inaugural Address). This quote went to leave a lasting legacy on Roosevelt and the American nation, but at the time, he was already giving a solution to his people about The Great Depression. He wanted everyone to know that he or she were not stirring away from the economic crisis, but attacking it with everything they have. His solution was declaring war on the Great Depression because instead of feeling miserable and hopeless, he was acting upon what he was saying about fear. He did not want his country to be left in shambles, but he wanted a fresh new start, an enormous change, and better ways to become a better country. In addition, he truly believed that the United States had the capacity to rebuild itself again, and the answer that everyone has been yearning for has been right there all along.

Furthermore, Roosevelt said, “ Our Constitution is so simple and practical that it is possible always to meet extraordinary needs by changes in emphasis and arrangement without loss of essential.” In the meantime, he was set up to prescribe estimates that he knew could do well just with a solid contribution of the public; they were able to move the government to deal with the country’s necessities. He needed his people to be on his side in order for the government to take action in rebuilding their country. Roosevelt knew this and used this speech to persuade his audience that he needed them to stand by him. For this result to happen, he could not make any changes by himself but rather with the Americans. That is why he decided to lift them up in his speech because they were the tool that was missing in order to advance to better times.

This speech addresses the qualities of a good American while also being able to touch on significant topics such as peace, freedom, and the role of God in Americans along with the importance of serving others. One of his most admired quotes reflects his hunger for any change in the U.S.A. He states, “For the trust repose and me I will return the courage and the devotion the befit the time, I can do less” (Roosevelt, The First Inaugural Address). He confronted the reality but responded with a message of hope. We face the author's days, that lie before us in the warm courage of national unity.” Based on his speech, many Americans believed that Roosevelt could defeat the Depression that stole the hope of many of them because he provided hope.

Now, not only did Roosevelt give them help but he yearned for his people to comprehend that they could have the victory in the midst of the struggle. He wanted to assure them that this was temporary, and his message planted unity for his country with the phrase, “With my fellow Americans” (Roosevelt, The First Inaugural Address). He wanted the Americans to take on a new perspective, to be grateful for what they have, and not see this crisis as the end of their lives, but the beginning of something great. He used his speech to implant the idea that money was not everything; they were only in a material crisis. He stated, “Happiness lies not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of the achievement, in the thrill of creative effort” (Roosevelt, The First Inaugural Address). He insisted on taking this as a challenge to work harder and to make the United States the best it could be. He wanted his people to be happy and that is why he said that because happiness does not come from money, but from hard work. He did not want anybody to be lazy, but rather take this opportunity to work harder and be happy through it.

He led the United States of America to trust him, and he did not fail them at the end. This speech was a foreshadowing for better times, and let the American citizens grasp the idea that the victory was theirs. It is so essential to comprehend that speeches like these have moved people to start a change because it all begins with a word.
