A small book bag, filled with three objects. It’s simple, small and doesn’t seem very significant at first glance, but when you dig deeper into the real meaning of things, it can open up your eyes into a whole new world. This bag is proof that sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in our hearts. These three objects represent my compassion, my sensitivity, and my need to succeed.
My first object represents my compassion for others.
My ziploc bag full of polaroids doesn’t look like much, but it means so much more to me than just a bunch of pictures. Some of these photos are from years ago, and some are just from yesterday. I keep these pictures to remind myself of all the people in my life who I care about, these people are here for me through thick and thin, as I am for them as well. I love caring for, and helping out the people that I love.
That is why these photos are so important to me.
My second object represents a deeper meaning, and my sensitivity. This object is my journal. My journal is an outlet for my thoughts. It is the passage to escape my bad thoughts, and my feelings that I just can’t shake. I write in my journal when I am feeling down, when I’m excited, and sometimes when I am just bored. My journal is very important to me, and I am grateful to have a place to let out my feelings, when nobody else is there to help me out.
My final object represents that I am a visionary.
My dream has always been to be a nurse, so this is why I chose scrubs as my third object. There is something about helping people that fulfills me. I love helping people of all ages, but I am particularly drawn to babies. I find their innocence, vulnerability, and elegance beautiful. I was even more drawn to a nursing career when I took an opportunity to shadow in the E.R. This experience really opened my eyes to the fact that the word “nurse” is just another word to describe someone who is strong enough to tolerate anything, and soft enough to understand anyone.
These tangible things represent my compassion, sensitivity, and my dream of being a nurse one day. My polaroids, my journal, and my pair of scrubs show how there is often an abstract meaning behind tangible objects, but sometimes, the intangible things are what gets us through life with a smile on our faces.
