  • They are respectful of new ideas and the beliefs of others, and greet criticism with open arms. They are always open to new ideas and challenging their own beliefs and searching for compelling proof. Therefore, they are very open-minded.

Theoretical Background

The primary roots to critical thinking are philosophy and psychology (Lewis and Smith, 1996).Sternberg has picked up a third strand related to critical thinking. These separate strands have different approaches which reflect their respective concerns.

The Philosophical Approach

The Cognitive Psychological Approach

The cognitive psychological approach is different from the philosophical approach in two major ways. First, in the cognitive psychological approach, it tends to focus on how people actually and regularly think, rather than judging them based on a particular circumstance. Second, cognitive psychology does not point to characteristics of the ideal critical thinker, but it defines a critical thinker by his or her actions, and the actions he can take and do (Lewis & Smith, 1993).

The Importance of Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is an indispensable general thinking skill. It is very essential, as the ability to analyze and conclude rationally is important in every aspect and turns of life. It is efficient in various fields of work, including but not limited to, work in education, finance, research, and obviously in legal professions. Being able to think well and systematically take decisions is an asset in any given career.

Critical Thinking is Very Important in The New Knowledge Economy. The global economy has been controlled by information and technology which is forever changing. Therefore, one must be able to deal with changes effectively and efficiently. The new economy places extraordinary requests on ranges of abilities which incorporate adaptable scholarly aptitudes, with the capacity to examinations data and coordinate differing wellsprings of information when managing an issue.
