Self-Assessment & Development Plan

Introduction

A personal development plan is one of the most effective tools for professionals who want to achieve excellence in their respective fields. It uses the concept of reflection to enable one to keep track of the steps he has made towards acquiring skills and knowledge. It enables one to monitor the life changes required to be made and the weak spots required to be improved. The plan provides a gauge for a person to see their progress, and determine the skills to be achieved in the future.

It aids in the achievement of personal and professional development goals. “Edwin Locke’s goal-setting theory proposed that intentions to work toward a goal are a major source of work motivation. Goals tell an employee what needs to be done and how much effort is needed. Evidence strongly suggests that specific goals increase performance and those difficult goals when the accepted result in higher performance than do easy goals. ” (Robbins & Judge, 2017 – Ch-5)

Conclusion

The personal development plan is very important in enabling the tracking of developmental changes that are necessary for the achievement of set goals.

Work on your interpersonal skills to increase your leadership potential. Improve your technical skills and conceptual skills through training and staying current with OB trends like “big data” (Robbins & Judge, 2017 – Ch-1)

I’m going to extend my personal development plan and I also review myself which skills I have required in my current and feature roles and responsibilities.

Current Skills

The following are some of my current personal and professional skills.

Time management: Time management is a very important skill for any human being who wants to be a success in his life and want to get something in the feature because nowadays we are living in a globalized world so you have to be able to manage your time in any circumstances to meet with the demands of this modern world so this is one of my very important skill and I’m very sufficient to manage my time but I still think that I have to learn more to improve my time management skill. “An understanding and utilization of basic time-management principles can help an individual’s better cope with tensions created by job demands.” (Robbins & Judge, 2017 – Ch-18)

Leadership Skill

Leadership skill is the ability to motivate and inspire a group of people or a member of your organization towards the goals and objectives which you are looking to achieve. This skill helps the leader to give inspiration to his followers and get more results to achieve the aims and objectives of an organization. Leaders can see the problems in any organization which needs to be fixed and he can set the goals that needs to be achieved it may be something that no any other person can see or on the other hand no else want to tackle whatever it is, it is the focus of leader attention and they come up with is single-minded determination so this is the most important thing in leadership skill. This is one of the very important skills which I have and play a vital role in my life to make progress by leaps and bounds but whatever skill I have but as a human being, I always try to learn and improve my personal development.

Communication Skill

Communication means to communicate with other people and that is a very important thing for any person who wants to be a success because nowadays we all are living in a globalized world and we have to meet with the people from different part of the world with different languages so in this case you have to be able to communicate with others this is also one of my very important skill which helps me to make progress but I still want to improve my this skill for my current and as well as my feature roles and responsibilities.so because of its importance I want to improve myself in this skill to achieve my aim and objectives of life.

Decision-Making Skill

Decision making skill is a vital skill for any human being. A person who is able to make a quick decision in any type of situation will get success. Decision making skill is very important in your professional life as compare to personal life because in professional life sometimes you have to make a very hard decision for the betterment of your organization and only this skill will help you to make a decision. “Make better decisions by recognizing perceptual biases and decision-making errors we tend to commit. Learning about these problems doesn’t always prevent us from making mistakes, but it does help.” (Robbins & Judge, 2017 – Ch-6)

Self Management Skill

Self-management means managing our self-reactions and emotions against the challenges in any circumstances and also understand the challenges and responsibilities in personally and also in professional life .self-management plays an important role to be successful in any field of life and provide you a sufficient chance to get full control on your emotions. This is also an important skill in my life and I really want to improve my skill because I need this skill for my feature roles and responsibilities.

Skills Required for Future

“What skills do managers need to effectively achieve their goals? Researchers have identified several skills that set successful managers apart from their less effective counterparts. These include technical skills, human skills, and conceptual skills. ” (Robbins & Judge, 2017 – Ch-1)

The following are some skills that I need in my future roles and responsibilities.

Planning

Planning means to make a proper way towards your goals and objectives.it also means to plan that when, where, and how you are going to achieve your goals and objectives, Planning is not only the skill which only helps you in your professional life it is also a skill which helps you even more in your personal life. By making proper planning in your life you will always be successful in your personal and professional life.

Self Management

A person who is able to manage a personal reaction to challenges and also the responsibilities in personal and professional life is called self-management. In self-management, you should be able to manage time and also change your self-according to the current situation and circumstances. The following are some factors of self-management.

  • Planning: You should make a feature planning towards your goals and objective and how you will achieve.
  • Self Awareness: You must have exact awareness about your current situation and circumstances
  • Time Management: You should be able to complete your work within a time that is very important in self-management.
  • Monitoring: You must have the ability to monitor all the things which are happening around you wither it is your personal life are professional.

Goals

It is very important for me and every individual organization to have goals in life, the goal should be SMART: S- Specific, significant, stretching & M – Measurable, meaningful, motivational & A – Achievable, acceptable, attainable & R- Realistic, relevant, reasonable, rewarding & T- time-base, tangible, traceable.

As such, I have a short-term and long-term goal to address, so I can focus on one at a time and continue moving forward. By doing that, I will allow myself the opportunity to avoid getting overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done. Becoming overwhelmed can stop a person from accomplishing much because he/she feels stuck and is not sure which direction to take in order to try to move forward. I do not want that to happen to me, and I know that I cannot allow that to occur in any kind of leadership role. “Goals can reduce stress as well as provide motivation. Employees who are highly committed to their goals and see the purpose in their jobs experience less stress because they are more likely to perceive stressors as challenges rather than hindrances, Specific goals perceived as attainable clarify performance expectations.” (Robbins & Judge, 2017 – Ch-18) , Leaders are expected to take action, even if they are under stress or they feel as though everything is happening all at once (Hersey, Blanchard, & Johnson, 2008). In order to be a good leader, and hopefully someday a great leader, I must make sure that I set and meet goals consistently, and that I know how to do that correctly.

Short term goals - To improve my performance to get better output using my strong points, Target Period – Six months to one year
Long term goals – To help myself with self-evaluation of my strong and weak points and build upon the ability to sustain continuous growth and keep growing, Target Period – One year to five years

My short-term goal is a professional goal to complete my current MBA course. It is something specific and attainable. It is also realistic, timely, and measurable, as my final grade will prove that I will be able to understand and process the course material in a manner that was sufficient enough for me to receive this grade. It is also a goal I feel confident I can meet, and one that will make me a better leader because I will have learned a great deal about proper communication -- both speaking and listening -- so I can be more effective in both my professional and personal life. “Contrast Oral, Written, and Nonverbal Communication” (Robbins & Judge, 2017 – Ch-11)

Finishing the course is a goal, and also one thing that will bring me closer to other goals I have, as well. In that sense, it works on two levels and is very important to future development.

What I need to do to achieve the above – Need to attend the MBA course and try to learn as much as possible from the experienced seniors at work and also get a review on my learning.

Kind of resources I would require to support the above-expected achievement – Might require some money to be invested.
What will be my expected success – To have a clear self-understanding of what I am doing and what is my expected outcome in the near future.

My second short term goal is a personal goal to buy a new home. It required careful negotiation. “The negotiation process as made up of five steps: (1) preparation and planning, (2) definition of ground rules, (3) clarification and justification, (4) bargaining and problem-solving, and (5) closure and implementation.” (Robbins & Judge, 2017 – Ch-12) Even with the negotiation taking place, things can still go wrong. That can be stressful and can require me to think quickly in overwhelming situations in order to make sure I make the right decision for my future.

Kind of resources I would require to support the above-expected achievement – Might require a home loan and money to be invested.
My long-term goal is professional goal organizational and departmental – Implementation of my PDP and enhances my knowledge in the management domain and increases my work experience to be able to reach the Vise President level of the organization. That may seem far-fetched, but it is actually realistic and attainable. These kinds of long-term goals are not easy, and they can take many years to achieve, but people who are deeply dedicated to their long-term goals can make them happen because they have a considerable period of time during which they can work toward them.

What leadership roles - “Transformational leaders are more effective because they are more creative. Companies with transformational leaders have greater decentralization of responsibility, managers have more propensities to take risks, and compensation plans are geared toward long-term results—all of which facilitate corporate entrepreneurship” (Robbins & Judge, 2017 – Ch-12)
What will I need to do to achieve the above – complete my MBA course and plane to attend further management courses, Learn from experienced sources? Keep the performance level at an exceptional standard. Create a network of high and influential people both from inside and outside of the organization. Completion of self-reviews on a regular and timely basis.

What kind of resources and support I would need to support the above expectation – Need to get closer with higher management people of the organization which might involve some cost in way of entertaining them and provide them with some help in completing and meeting their demand. To create a network of powerful and influential people for myself

5 Qualities You Need to Reach Your Biggest Goals

It wasn’t always easy—it was a huge commitment and it took a lot of determination each time.
But let’s face it. Sometimes we give up on our goals because we don’t follow through on everything we should do. We all do it. Five qualities you need to reach your biggest goals:

  1. Be positive
  2. Be persistent
  3. Be patient
  4. Be resilient
  5. Be adaptable.

As Og Mandino said, “Always take the attitude of a student. Never be too big to ask questions.” You must always learn and grow through life because that will help you achieve great success. What are the big goals that you want to achieve? Believe in yourself. You can do this!

Conclusion

From my self-prepared PDP, I am quite confident that I am on the right path and also confident that I can overcome the weaknesses I have in some specific fields with help from internal and external sources and also would try to use my strong points to dominate over my weaknesses. I want to be on the right track and would want to see myself as a role model for people who want to succeed in the financial sector and want to reach the managerial level and start his own entrepreneurship.
