Attending the Summer Academy for Math and Science at Carnegie Mellon University would aid greatly in my academic and career goals. As a first generation Asian-American as well as a first-generation college student, I feel as though my attendance at this program would help greatly to let me see how life is like at a top tier university as well as allow me to expand my knowledge of STEM. Although I am taking the most challenging STEM curriculum at school, I don't feel as though I am pushed to my full potential.

However, attending the SAMS program will challenge me intellectually as well as put me ahead of my peers who are also on the path to attend a top tier university. This opportunity is extremely enriching, and I truly believe that i would help me with my academic goals. In terms of my career goals, the SAMS program could also help me tremendously. Because my parents aren't as well-connected as those of other students, I might have a harder time forming professional connections as a result.

However, attending SAMS will allow me to form connections and bonds with some of the best and brightest students as well as professors in the country. These connections will help me greatly in finding a job after college. Attending the program will allow me to be knowledgeable and proficient in college-level subjects, which will give me an advantage over my peers in college who might be new to knowledge taught in the classroom. This would allow me to be favored in terms of opportunities for research and internships.

SAMS would also provide me with valuable experience and knowledge in STEM that would be great to have on my resume. If I am admitted, I have a plethora of things to bring to this program that would contribute to its success. First, I can guarantee that I will put in all the work and effort I could into learning and experimenting. I know that I am a motivated and hardworking person, and because I will take full advantage of this opportunity and be sure to take the most out of the experience. Second, I think that I could contribute to the program by adding diversity. Any academic institution would benefit from having students that come from a variety of backgrounds, and I represent historically underrepresented groups of people in higher education. I feel as though I can bring my own unique perspective and views to the program, adding to its inclusion and diversity. Lastly, I can contribute to the success of this program with positivity and a learning mindset. I know to respect others and work well with people, which means that I could add to the academic atmosphere in the program. I know to ask questions and engage with professors and students alike, which I believe would contribute to the success of the program since an accepting mind is a key to maintaining the intellectual environment at SAMS.
