This poem attempts to awaken the Filipino Youth, to enjoy our nation and respect individuals. It also tells the significant role of the youth for the improvement of the country. At 8, he composed his very first poem in Tagalog, Sa Aking Mga Kababata (To My Fellow Kid). The popular poem was a nationalistic venture to encourage Philipinos to adopt Tagalog as their language. Supposedly, it was composed by Rizal at the age of 8 or 9. However, there are major reviews of the poem declaring that it was not written by Rizal, certainly not at such a young age.

' Through education, our motherland receives light' becomes part of the poem by Jose Rizal.
