Reflection on Volunteering in the Community Service

The idea of community service was a bore to me before I started my volunteer work. I was scared to start my community service even though I knew I had to do it. I didn't even care about where I earned my hours. I just wanted to get it over with. To my surprise, it wasn't exactly what I expected. Community service has not been a painful experience; it has been a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.

I performed my community service with Dual Blessing Sdn Bhd.

Dual Blessings provides services such as vocational training to achieve a breakthrough in their lives that enables disabilities to have better job opportunities. On that day of servicing, I managed to have a sharing session with Mr Goh, which was the person in charge of the organization, and got to know the insights of some other friends with disability. Hence, I understand their pasts and gave them appropriate confidence and encouragement for them to step back into the society.

All of us are living on the Earth that is a habitat for humanity, and we were not placed here by chance. If we are living together, we have the responsibility for each other. We should help anyone who is in need and be sympathetic to others. They are also very motivated because as follows by the quote said by Mr. Goh “Instead of giving them fish, we teach how to fish”. They have never asked anything from anyone and worked for everything to the best extend within their capabilities.

I helped them to cook lunch and clean up their surroundings and places where they couldn’t reach. During the time I understand that I do this work because I love those people and want to make their life easier. I wasn't because of the responsibilities, it was because I wanted to do that. Nobody's going to pay me, nobody's going to say "thank you," but I still wanted to help others. I found out that community service helps us understand a lot of things we've never known of before. This helps me to think about the motivations and consequences of my daily actions, and also help me to set my goals properly.

Community service has helped me to notice other people who have surrounded me and become a true part of society, not just a factual part of it. I found that it's not difficult to volunteer for community service, and all the lessons I've learned will have a significant impact on my future life. The construction of community service requires people to work in groups, I'm sure it's another big advantage that shouldn't be overlooked. If you work in a group, you connect with others, and this contact will change a lot in your life. First of all, you've got a chance to learn from others. Community service does not require any specific training or education to become a member of it. Obviously, not everyone is completely aware of things, and that's a good chance to learn from someone who is more skilled. I have never been a good cook, but the time spent on the organization’s kitchen definitely taught me a lot. Now I can surely say that I can cook some of the basic recipes I learned that day.

Communication helps people to share their experience, knowledge, and support each other to improve. It's also great fun working together as you become friends, always sharing your stories and jokes. I hope that my reflection on community service can help to gain awareness and help people to share love with people with disabilities. It's also a chance to get to know new things and to get new skills from other people who are more knowledgeable than you I have already realized how important it is to spend time with others, but not thinking about the waste of my time. I finally understand that not only material repayment is important. I received lots of emotions and the feeling of being happily satisfied, and that is much better than money.
