Production Of The First Cars

Over the years, humans have kept evolving and thinking of new ways to make their lives easier, as well as for the people around them. Ever since man attached a chariot to a horse, ideas and inspiration have kept on growing. The 18th century was known as the industrialization era, In the year 1807, the first commercial steamboat was released to be used. The first car was invented in 1886 which led to a great innovation of machinery and transportation. As humans advanced in technology, more and more complex ideas came to life.

On December 17, 1903, the first plane was invented, an idea that seemed impossible finally took flight. Now we are living in the 21st century where our lives are so intertwined with technology, new ideas are hard to come up with or even come across.

The autonomous car is an idea that is possible to impact the world in many positive ways; fuel consumption and emissions, safety, and can add up to 2 Trillion dollars in benefits to the U.

S. economy. Fuel consumption has been a growing problem over the generations, so far there have been no solutions for a world with an unquenchable thirst for petroleum oil. Once all the oil in the world has been drained by oil mines, and a well built and substantial solution has been made yet, it could mean the end of the world. With the new technology that autonomous cars have like sensors. According to a study from MIT on, “Vehicle-to-vehicle communication, which allows vehicles to travel on highways very close together at consistent speeds, could also reduce fuel consumption.

This means when vehicles are traveling at a high-velocity it impacts against the air makes the vehicle slow down. That is why cars are aerodynamic to reduce air friction and so the engine doesn’t have to use more fuel to provide more power to combat the wind. When cars travel close together they won’t need to withstand the wind because the car in front of it creates an air vacuum where the air friction isn’t resisting the car. According to an article in, it says that “Although transportation makes up 27% of greenhouse gas emissions, those aren’t all “wasted.” If you are hungry and eat a hot dog, the food isn’t wasted. It is only wasteful if you make more hot dogs than you need. What the auto industry is trying to do is reduce the need for fuel by increasing efficiency and limiting waste.” What this means is, if cars can drive more efficiently, without human error, like slamming on the brakes or suddenly accelerating, then this would reduce fuel usage.

If cars could move in coordination with each other, which is only possible without a human controlling the vehicle. A lot of pollution is caused by the stop-and-go waves in traffic jams. Examples of this would be when someone crosses into your lane and you need to slam on the brakes and then afterward, get back up to speed, or when you are about to miss your exit and you have to violently increase your speed to pass the guy in front of you. All this stop and go produces a lot more pollution than if you maintain a constant speed and gradually slow down, a problem only autonomous cars accomplish. Autonomous cars can greatly reduce fuel consumption and emissions as a result of advancements in technology. Safety is everyone’s top priority when it comes to owning a car since 90% of the United States population goes to and from work every day using a car or another closely related vehicle on the road.

Based on statistics for car accidents, nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. Road crashes are the leading cause of death among young people ages 15-29 in the United States. Drunk driving contributes over 50% of these deaths. Texting while driving is also a huge component because 1 out of every 4 car accidents is because of texting while driving. Human error is mostly to blame for why these fatalities are so high. Autonomous cars will cut down human drivers as the years progress According to an article on, “By 2032 to 2047: According to the Wall Street Journal, a car that “operates by itself under all conditions, period. As well as 12 million fully autonomous units sold a year globally.” This shows that if the idea of autonomous cars rapidly grows in popularity and demand then by the near future fully, autonomous cars will seem completely normal.

In the early to mid-1900’s it was strange to find a car, people rode on horseback. By the year 2050 having the conventional car will seem just as unlikely as a person riding a horse as their main source of transportation, current day. A few months ago, Uber released an autonomous vehicle onto the road with a driver behind the wheel but not actually controlling the vehicle. The SUV was in fully autonomous mode when a lady walked from the median with her bike in the middle of a street one late night. The vehicle struck her and she later died of her injuries. This proposed a major question to the world of self-driving vehicles and if they are safer than human drivers. Studies show that the accident was unavoidable, human driver or not. According to an article.

“Or, as University of South Carolina law professor Bryant Walker Smith put it Monday: ‘This woman’s tragic death is going to be in every major newspaper and on every major website’ while everyday highway deaths go uncovered.” this proves that autonomous cars are still a work in progress and can be tremendously improved while the many deadly car accidents where human error is at fault, something that can’t be improved but only reduced. Autonomous cars are planned to add close to 2 trillion dollars in benefits to the U.S. economy. If most of the cars on the road are autonomous, car accidents will be very rare since all the calculations the car makes are perfectly planned, compared to a human driver who can make numerous mistakes.

With so little accidents on the road, mechanic shops can be put out of business or much fewer shops being operated. The only fixing that is needed will be the wear and tear of the electronic components like sensors, the CPU, and motherboards which calls for a much higher level of intellect to repair these essential and complicated parts. According to an article, “It is also realistic to expect that trucks transporting goods between distribution centers and retail outlets will be able to run on an almost 24-hours a day, seven days a week schedule. These high-utilization rates will spawn a very active secondary market for used pilotless vehicles as companies replace and refresh their fleets.” this demonstrates that truck drivers who would normally need to rest, eat and sleep while driving for weeks at a time can be accomplished with autonomous trucks.

Self-driving trucks don’t need to waste time sleeping and eating, which is a necessity for humans. Autonomous trucks can drive 24/7, only wasting time on refueling or possibly recharging. This will improve shipping rates by cutting down the time to make the delivery, therefore adding to the economy. Autonomous cars can reduce 28 billion dollars annually by minimizing traffic congestion, according to the article, “a reduction in the $28 billion of annual costs associated with traffic congestion from car accidents, not to mention lives saved as the accident rate drops by 80%.” This proves that autonomous cars will cut down billions of dollars from the annual costs to repair vehicles and roads from a car accident.

The reason is, self-driving cars aren’t prone to as many accidents as a normal human driver since they run on incredibly complex algorithms that signal the perfect maneuver to do in this specific scenario. Because of this, there will be much fewer accidents on roads and more time will be made, therefore contributing a huge amount of money and benefits to the economy of the United States. In the near future, autonomous cars will greatly improve society and change the world we live in. As autonomous technology improves there will be more ways self-driving cars can contribute to the world. From cutting down fuel consumption and emissions. Saving more lives and making the roads safer. And adding $2 trillion in benefits to the economy. In other words, autonomous cars are planned to impact the world in many positive ways.
