American Muscle Cars: Mustang vs Camaro

Mustang 2011 vs. Camaro 2011

When people hear the words, "American Muscle Car," two distinctive cars come to mind, the Camaro and the Mustang. Throughout the era of the early 1950's and 1960's, there was a revolutionary movement where automotive companies wanted to design a car with awesome horse power. That took place and paved the ground work for today's "Muscle Cars" known as the "Pony car Era." When it comes to cars, we all I want a car with luxury looks but also one that says, “I have the horse power”.

We want a car with an engine could roar so loud that it makes your ears tingle. In the late 60’s the two top selling car companies Ford and Chevy, had designed their own furious muscle car.

Those two original cars are the Ford Mustang vs. the Chevy Camaro. These two tremendous and fast potential cars have been competing with each other year after year. The automotive Ford Company designed the Mustang in 1964. The Chevrolet Camaro designed the Camaro in 1966, which was designed as a competing model to the Ford Mustang.

They are the two most popular sport cars in the United States. These two pony cars are alike and different in many ways. I think both cars are awesome, but for me personally, I live for the Ford Mustangs. All my life my family has always been debating about everything, especially sports and cars. The big question that gets thrown out a lot is: “are you a Ford or a Chevy person?” I came to choose the Ford Mustang. Throughout this essay I will compare each car with engine size, price, the new based model 2011, and the most popular car. Which one will you chose!

We all ask ourselves which engine is better, Camaro or Mustang. The 2011 Chevy Camaro SS, is a car with a tremendous 6.2L V.8 engine that reaches a potential of 426 horse power. Chevy Camaro emits a voluminous mix of thunderous exhaust and an engine roar. Driving down the road, this low-slung pony car feels is exactly like what you would ask out of a muscle car. Driving makes the chandeliers shake in a third-floor apartment building.

It powers through traffic like a thundering locomotive. With this horse power six speed manual transmission, the Chevy Camaro reaches 100 mph in a matter of 10.7 seconds, it finishing the quarter mile in 13.1 seconds at a top speed of 110.8 mph! Now at a six speed manual transmission with a 6. Liter V8 engine, the Camaro SS can produce 426 horsepower at 5,900 RPM’s as well as 420 pounds of torque at 4,600 RPM’s. The Chevy Camaro SS is a true muscle car, but will the 2011 Mustang GT stand up to the fight?

When you talk about muscle cars and their horse power the first thing that will always comes to mind in a fan muscle car conversation, is the 1964 Mustang, where it all begins. The 1964 Ford Mustang was part of the Pony Era or as we call it the muscle cars. Since 1964 Ford always finds away to surprise Mustang fans in some way. It has been happening for five generations of Mustangs. One generation that stands out is the fifth generation and what better model than the 2011 Mustang GT!

The 2011 Mustang GT came out months after the 2011 Chevy Camaro. So people questioned if the Ford Mustang GT would beat the Camaro. Would it beat it? Indeed it does, having just twelve less horse power than the Camaro SS, the Mustang GT light weight engine and body made it possible to beat the Camaro SS. The 2011 Mustang GT stands proud with its 5.0L V.8 engine, easily releasing 412 horse power. The Ford Mustang GT does stand up to its name, “Mustang”, the furious horse! Reaching the 100 mph mark in 10.2 seconds and finishing the quarter mile in just 12.7 seconds at a top speed of 111.3 mph! The new Ford Mustang GT has a lot of power under its hood for being a pony car. Now at a six speed manual transmission with a 5.0 Liter V8 engine, the mustang GT can produce 412 horsepower at 6,500 RPM’s as well as 390 pounds of torque at 4,250 RPM’s. These two cars have been put to the starting line and it stands up that the Ford Mustang GT 2011 wins the speed test! With the economy that we are in which car will have the best price?

It's the longest sustained automotive rivalry in American history Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro and it has just boiled over. With the economy we live in and fuel prices up high, which car would be the best considering both of them are V.8 engines? With the Camaro SS having the complete package of 426 horse power can produce 5,900 RPM’s as well as 420 pounds of torque at 4,600 RPM’s and reaching 100 mph is just a matter of 10.7 seconds it’s just irresistible to say no to it. With a price starting anywhere to 33,000 and up for a based model does the price sound fair? Are you paying for its horse power and its outside beauty or are you getting more as well? Holding 19 gallons of fuel and giving 24 miles per gallon, and using unleaded premium fuel, it sure hurts our wallet when we take this baby for a drive! With the economy we are having will the Camaro SS be the better choice? The Camaro may perhaps have a better beauty than the Ford Mustang GT.

Its low body style, angry looking halo headlights, body style, and paint that seems to represent a lightning bolt it sure will beat the Mustang GT at a beauty contest! There's more than enough power here to overcome the available grip and saving a shift certainly saves time, but there's something distinctly unsatisfying about the Camaro's acceleration. The Camaro makes respectable handling numbers and is well is mannered and quite well behaved on less-than-smooth roads, but it lacks the engagement of the more responsive Mustang. The 20-inch wheels and tires are noticeably heavy, with chassis heavily burdening its front tires. The Camaro also has luxury inside the car not just engine. The 30,000 dollars and up you paying seems quiet fair. How will the Mustang GT price match?

The 2011 Mustang GT has proved itself being fourteen horse power less than the Camaro SS as the number one fast car. The 2011 Ford Mustang GT indeed beats the 2011 Camaro SS’s price. Starting at just 28,000 dollars for a base model, you sure are getting a real car! Not only does it have speed, but it also saves money in your pockets. With fuel being up high it sure does beat the Camaro SS’s price, holding 16 gallons of fuel and giving an amazing 28 miles to the gallon considering it is a V.8, I wouldn’t mind taking this baby for a drive to the city!

You get more than just an engine and fuel saver, but the beauty of the Ford Mustang. What stands out the most are those monster headlights, its angry looking low front bumper and looks fast and mean! There is a saying used year after year that says, “The Mustang may not pack the Camaro's visual firepower, but it's an easy car with which to live”. Overall which car has the most car fans?

Since the late 1960’s there has been a car war! One car wants to stand on top over all, and it is always top speed who that it all! The Chevy Camaro SS and the Ford Mustang GT are two legendary ponies. Cars fans have always debated which car is the best year after year and generation and generation of the newer based models. The Ford Mustang was introduced in 1964, where a new era of muscle cars began. The 1965 Mustang won the Tiffany Gold Medal for excellence in American design, the first automobile ever to do so. The Chevy Camaro birth was in 1965 but was first introduced in 1967 to fans, almost three years since the birth of the Mustang. Since then it was meant for these cars to show which one would stand on top.

The first showdowns of these models started in the fall of 1966, the Camaro had come out the winner. Just which car is the most popular car 2011 Ford Mustang GT or 2011 Chevy Camaro? None of these car will be the best choice for your daily driver, but when it comes to sports car that can deliver the horse power drive both stand out at top. Both cars seem equally as a good choice to pick even though the Mustang has more models to choose from than the Camaro. Both of these ponies stand on top over all, but the Mustang GT comes out just an inch on top. Who wins the popularity contest? We will have to start off with the big question are you a Chevy or Ford person? From there you can take you pick between 2011 Chevy Camaro SS or 2011 Ford Mustang GT.

In the end it is the person who decides which car to pick from. I just pick the 2010 Ford Mustang GT as a better choice than the 2011 Chevy Camaro SS. Mustang GT it has better speed, better body, style and it’s a money saver if you had to choice between those two cars. In the end, this is all about American muscle cars making their comeback. I won’t make any final statement about whether the Mustang GT is a better car overall than the 2011 Chevy Camaro. What I can tell you is that the growl is fiercer on the Mustang GT, driving with the top down is an amazing experience in a muscle car, the Mustang GT has a more eye-catching look. I still leave you with the same question, which one will you pick, 2011 Ford Mustang GT or 2011 Chevy Camaro?
